    LTG Exchange's Disco International 12"s

I've seen Waterbed and Corazon listed on the internet at a number of websites as having been reissued on the Disco International label in 7 minute versions in the late 70s. Has anyone heard the mixes? Are they basically re-edits of the original released recordings (i.e. edit repeated to make them longer), or are they fully remixed from the master tapes?

I had the “Corazon” 12” handy and gave a spin, it is basically an extended edited version of the original ’73 Fania 7” Release, there is nothing new on the 12” as far as I can tell, the 12” transfer is very good, it looks like they used the masters with a new mixdown because the congas this time are on the ‘Right ‘ channel while they are on the left on the original Fania 7”, the same with the high hat, it has been reversed, also the 7” seems to have more bass than the 12” believe or not, but unless you have some time to kill like me  and play both version one after the other you wont pick up this differences.

Waterbed 12” is 7:14 long, I don’t think I have that one, the original Wand/Fania ’74 single is 3:45 and Part II (instrumental) is 3:40, there is a 5:47 Tom Moulton mix on the Disco Gold volume II CD/Vinyl which is pretty good, although all things been equal my 7” sounds to me much better that this CD.

By the way I always prefered the original “Corazon” by Carole King, it just has that kind of 70's 'underground' sound of early discos, I remember when I first heard this I could never believe King wrote and recorded this.

Cheers! Thanks for clearing that up. I think that 6 minute edit of Corazon was on one of those disco compilations from the UK on Strut or BBE. The track was basically edited to repeat. I'm guessing they did the same thing with Waterbed. I've liked all of the versions of Corazon, whether it was by Carole King, Creative Source, or LTG Exchange. It's just a well written song that you can't mess up too much.

One thing that has bothered me about Part 1 and 2 of Waterbed is that they are mixed differently so the jump from one to the other is too obvious, which you can hear in the Tom Moulton edit. It's not a huge headache or anything, but its not smooth.

Too bad LTG Exchange didn't keep that funk disco sound going that they had on their first album. I've got Huddle from the next album and it doesn't sound so good. Too polished.

Creative Sourse? :o I don't remember that one, I just checked and is not on the LP,:( (any info), I think someone here mentioned this one here years ago...

What really bothers me here is the constant "thump" starting around the 4:00 minute mark, obviously a needle job taken from damaged vinyl that they didn't even bother to clean it out. :x the hi hats also sound to "Digitally processed" for my taste.

Creative Source is the group (I think that's what you're getting confused about). The same artist that recorded Who Is He and What Is He To You. I think it was on the Migration album.

I'll have to check that out. I never noticed the defect.

I know you meant Creative Sourse, the Group, I've got the "Who is he.." album only a few years back on Sussex, probably a re-issue, but Corazon is not included here.

That's a good CD. I bought it a number of years ago when it first came out.

Hokis Pokis is an interesting group. I actually prefer the flip side to Nowhere (on the original 7") called 'Can't Wait For Love'. Too bad this group put out singles only. No albums as far as I can tell.
