All my records are packed away right now, but I really like the song that comes after the song after "Give me the Night" (the last song on that side of that album). I dont like thre middle song much.![]()
Inside love (So personal) - produced by Kashif
Shiver (12" remix)
One of the great Disco artists who rarely gets mentioned in these forums.
Supership showed the way he was heading and Breezin' floored everyone for its sheer quality. From then on in he hardly put a foot wrong for 9 or more years. I have 5 or so of his albums, which I must drag out of storage and re-explore.....soon.
While The City Sleeps from the 1986 album of the same title is a terrific dance groove with a very catchy "into your brain" kind of chorus. Next to Give Me The Night, it is my personal favorite danceable Benson tune.
I enjoy the surround DVD-Audio mix of the Breezin' album.
"Theme from good king gone bad" and "One rock don't make no boulder" are solid instrumentals from his pre-Breezin days and worth checking out. All of his music with exception of early live bootlegs from noname labels are worth your time.
i know this doesn't really count, but the Masters At Work remixes of Song For My Brother are classic..
20/20 (Jellybean remix) is worth to mention (1984)
also Turn your love around
I love Breezin. Even though the song and the rest of the album gets heavy airplay in shopping malls and eazy rock type stations, the rhythm section on that track is so funky! Especially that intro break section, which I'm surprised hasn't been sampled (at least not on a big name rap song). Harvey Mason's drumming is awesome.
Disco Funk
I never considered his music much as disco - but I am going to track down the songs mentioned here and give them a listen now...
This song has a GREAT beat!

this one was redone lately with vocals by Donny Osmond.Originally Written by Disco Funk
I considered George Benson a smooth jazz artist that made a few "danceable" songs with varying degrees of dance floor success. IMO most of his club music output with a few exceptions mentioned here already was to layback for the party club crowds, especially during the club’s peak hours, now, for listening and enjoying really great music, you can’t beat it.
I know it's not really a disco song, but George's version of "On Broadway" was heavily played in clubs here when it appeared in the soundtrack of the "All that jazz" movie. (BTW, it was a bit difficult to mix with classic disco material).
It took me years before I discovered the track had actually been taken from his live album Welcome to L.A.... and that it was several minutes longer! :o
I don't remember exactly if the Give me the night album came before or after "All that jazz" release date.
"On Broadway" was out on a 12" so it was considered more or less offically disco. Like you say it is a bitch to mix - the bpms apparently start at c. 122 but where do they go soon after? Still, a magnificent piece of music.
this might interest you as well. Check out this 12" on WBOriginally Written by discodisco
Turn your love around.... very Luther Vandross-ish
and on the B-side Soulful strut... an instrumental remake of the 60's classic
