I transferred this track to CD just the other day. It was relatively lost in the '79 rush of releases, despite doing fairly good business. More of a big hit in the US discos, methinks.
It's "Doin' The Best I Can" by Bettye LaVette :)

''Her recording career had been put on hold, but in 1979 she reluctantly recorded "Doin' The Best That I Can," during the disco craze. To her surprise, the record became a big seller, which was played in discos around the world and is now listed with the other great disco classics."

Late last year she appeared on a live music show here in the UK (Later with Jools Holland), and sang her 'biggest' soul hit from earlier than when this track was made. Having heard her live, my view was the this Disco track wasn't her best recording - not showing the true range and power in her voice.
