The DISCOFUNK-thread - Do you know the originals?

    Hi friends,

for years now the "discofunk"-whitelabel-vinyls offer great house-/clubmixes of classical 70s/80s-discosongs.

But every time I hear it I ask myself about the original artists....

    Release-list:

    Vol. 1
A Give Up Your Love (thanks, original by "Diana Ross")
B1 Choice (thanks, that's "First Choice")
B2 Funky (thanks, the original's from "Funkadelic")

    Vol. 2
A Glow Of Love (of course, this was done by "Change")
B Changes (I think "Imagination" has made it)

    Vol. 3
A1 Wake Up (this is "Candi Station")
A2 In the Air (thanks, it's from "The MG's"/"Otis Reading & Carla Thomas"/"The Incredible Bongo Band")

    Vol. 4
A1 All We Need (this is from "Voyage")
A2 In Da Disco (this is by "Bionic Boogie")

    Vol. 5
    A1 Watching You
A2 The Beach (thanks - this is "Sister Sledge")

    Vol. 6
A1 No Other (??? a very big one, do you know it ???)
A2 Get Ready (thanks - Original by "Shalamar")

    Vol. 7
A1 Telephone (big thanks, it's from "Norma Jean")
A2 The Beat (thanks - Original by the "BBQ Band")

    Vol. 8
A1 Your Love (this is "Chilly")
    A2 Magic

    Vol. 9
A1 Lover (thanks, that's "Carol Jiani")
    A2 Majorous

    (Soundclips are available at http://213.239.193.151/de/onstock.as...pret=discofunk)

    Can you help? :D

    Thank you
    Chris

    I'd help
but I tried to get some samples from the places you recommended but it wouldn't work

Get Ready - I suppose might be Shalamars cut

the beat - Might be BBQ band

but I would have to hear it first

found some samples on the deejay.de page but they ask you to register and stuff in a for me foreign language

maybe you could just upload some of the cuts in mp3 format to
    yousendit.com

and then post the download links here....

If you need soundclips they are available as "Real Audio"-files (you may get the player from www.real.com) here:

I love the first one, the Chic sounding track!

    Here are my efforts:

    Vol. 1
    A Give Up Your Love
    = sounds like Chic?
B2 Funky = Parliament - Flash light (not certain of the track)

    Vol. 3
    A2 In the Air

    Guitar = The MG's - Melting Pot
"Tramp" vocal = Otis Reading & Carla Thomas - Tramp
Bongos at end = The Incredible Bongo Band - Apache

B2 is actually Funkadelic Knee Deep

A2 The Beat (thanks - Original by the "BBQ Band")
A1 is Norma Jean Sorceror (1978)

Ok, thanks again for these great tips. I've corrected the list above.

Any more ideas, especially for Vol. 6?
(Somebody mentioned the "Brothers Johnson" but I don't have any clue if this may be right)

There are many others disco bootleg compilations. For example, Disco Diamonds or Disco Inferno. It's very popular too. After Discofunk compilations is over it needs to ID other records. Very interesting =)
