"What About My Love' by Johnnie Taylor if I am not mistaken...great strings...
I'm three years too late on this one and perhaps this was discussed back then but I've just discovered where the samples came from to make the huge dancefloor hit Groovejet. They're from Love Is You by Carol Williams!
I had never heard this beauty until these last few weeks (this website has me discovering all kinds of disco nuggets that I had missed). So now I'm bugged...is nothing sacred anymore? Here was naive me thinking that a dj may have created the guitar riff himself (duh!) and looped that but he stole it from Ms. Williams....er...the Salsoul Orchestra.
I'm not quite sure why this bugs me like it does. The dance charts are chock full of these ripoffs. I suppose it's because when I read reviews of "Groovejet" and saw how big it became (it was the #1 dance hit in 2002 on so many charts), I never once read where the samples came from.
So where did the samples in Lola's Theme come from? :x

Over 5 years too late in fact - Groovejet was a number 1 single in the UK in summer 2000! :D![]()
According to this site, which is well worth bookmarking, Shapeshifters sampled the following tracks:
Johnnie Taylor - What About My Love
Imarri - Let Me Love You
Anthony White - Love Me Tonight
I'm not sure if all of these are correct.

Groovejet was an excellent track!
Of course, its original source
Love Is You - Carol Williams was excellent!
Disco Classic
I can completely understand you as I've heard "Love Is You" for the first time a few weeks ago (a great song by the way). All the time I considered "Groovejet" to be a creative work. Well, I still have the original vinyl copy that is only an instrumental version (as the vocals were added later on for commercial release). Nowhere on the vinyl is it mentioned where Spiller got the idea from, just "written by C. Spiller" and with no "contains a sample/ portions from..." as usually done. That was very disappointing.:(
"Wisdom is the province of the aged, but the heart of a child is pure."
– Indian saying ("The Party")
Christiano Spiller originally released "Groovejet" as "Mighty Miami EP" which is as you say the instrumental version. He later added Sophie Bextor-Ellis' vocals and turned it into a very infectuous cover. Another good release by him is "Battacuda".
Probably when the tune made it from the clubs to the charts they had to publish the credits.
