    Music Genome Project

Has anyone checked out the music Genome Project
    pandora.com

it basically maps your music tastes
since I am into a lot of
    funk
    northern soul
    and funky grooves

I would like some fellow disco listerns to check it out
or if you already have checked it out

speak of your experience with it

    I can personally say that
I love the invention since the possibilties are endless
but it angers me that the libary is still quite lacking
    in fundemental songs

but it has some rarities to

look forward to hearing from you!

It's not bad, but a lot of the Disco music on there is of the Bee Gees variety. I guess the idea is to give you new music to listen to based on your taste, but the library seems a bit confined to me. I do like the concept, and it's also free, so can't really complain.

    well calling it Bee Gee'esq
is a bit far fethced and extreme in my opinion

But there are some major holes in it

but I think there is a lot both commericial and more uderground tunes there

but I have also noticed that some Billboard top10 songs are missing
so they no doubt need to work on it

I guess I'll have to give it another few tries - I was very disappointed with the generic and popular selections it chose for me (disco related), but I'll admit I didn't listen for more than 6-7 songs at a time. It's worth another try.

I'm highly intrigued because I search the Internet for old playlist of mostly soul and quiet storm. Chiefly I want to know what was played, the format, the order of how it was played, and by whom BITD.
I typed in Babyface and got 2 1990's Atlantic Star pieces, 2 more Babyface pieces, an oddball midtempo cut by Levert, and a cut from Lionel Ritchie's Angel, and something quiet breezy from a boyish soul group (maybe Nuttin' Nyce)?. I think people miscategorize him with all of the grammies anyway. I should have done it for Blue Magic though. Interesting to see how the pool balls break on that.
One feature I liked was that you could diss a song. There's a lot of uptempo garbage on these albums that sound dated, out of place, and of poor quality.
I wonder though if all cuts are included like remixes, hits, filler, alternates.
    Definitely interesting find.

well I must say that to me the program has been quite good
but I give it quite a work out
    I diss
    and thumb up
a lot of the song in order to mold it in the right direction and thanks to it I have rediscovered some old songs which I had completley almost forgotten about but which I am very grateful to hear again like

Champaign - Can you find the time
    Cheryl Lynn - Encore
Bar Kays - Shut the Funk up
    Lakeside - Shot of Love
Marvin Gaye - My Love is waiting

    are some examples
altough you have to be fast to diss
the songs you don't like or the it starts trailing of one music
    genomes that aren't your style

    Interesting!
I have just listened to tracks by The Salsoul Orch, Chic, Love Unlimited Orch, MFSB, Deodato.

    Not bad at all.

I just used the demo mode without subscribing, enrolling, or giving e-mail address. I'm afraid of spyware since its a semi-commercial site and needs funding. However, I don't get enough of studing how people categorize and review contemporary music. It's become almost as important as the music itself. It's a real obsession of mine. I'd love to hear a daily log of your findings sutnop.
