    The Fabulous Sylvester

I just finished reading the book titled The Fabulous Sylvester. I was a pretty good book. A little slow in parts but quite interesting. It makes you wonder what he would be doing today if he were still alive. It makes you wonder what kind of music we would be listening to if a lot of the people, like Patrick Cowley were still alive.

It does have quite a few pictures. Some from childhood, some in drag as a teenager and concert photos. All and all, I found it to be a good book and worth checking out.

    Re: The Fabulous Sylvester

This morning when I woke up, I skipped ahead to the end of the book to see how Sylvester had died. I must say, it was very sad. I am a huge fan of his, not because Im gay or anything, but because I think Sylvester was a very talented musician and a funny guy. It was so sad to hear how he discintergrated and died of aids. When his friends would come and visit him, they would talk, but when they left, they would cry after seeing him dieing like that. He started to give away all his things and even wrote a will. His body continued to discintegrate, and he finally dozed off and then died one day in his apartment. Luckily his family was with him.
After reading of my favorite artists death, I was kind of depressed about it for the rest of the day. Previuly I would play his music and really enjoy it. But from now on, I think Its going to be kind of wierd for me when I play his music. It will always remind me of him, and then his death. God rest his soul.

these are the albums I have
    on vinyl:
I WHO HAVE NOTHING - (FANTASY SINGLE)
    LIVING PROOF
    STEP II
    STARS
DO YOU WANNA FUNK (MEGATONE SINGLE)
    SYLVESTERS GREATEST HITS
LIVING FOR THE CITY (MEGATONE SINGLE)
TELL ME / ALL I NEED (MEGATONE SINGLE)
    CALL ME (MEGATONE SINGLE)
    BAND OF GOLD (MEGATONE SINGLE)

    on tape:
    ALL I NEED
    SELL MY SOUL

    Re: The Fabulous Sylvester

i just checked out the list of dead disco singers:
    http://www.discomusic.com/people/C0_80_11/

I couldnt believe how many of these artists had died! Most died way too young. I think its kind of strange.

Before you know it, thay will all be dead! In fact, everyone has a 1 in 1 chance of dieing. this is why it is important to know that you are Ok with God. You dont want to be anti- bible and anti - christianity, or you are not going to go to the right place!

    Re: The Fabulous Sylvester

Its actually 2 albums on 1 Cd. One is his original album from 1977 that he made right after he hired Izora and Martha to sing with him and the other album is from 1981. Both are great and the music is exactly the same. Even in 1981, Sylvester was still making great 70s sounding music. He didnt change his sound untill 1982 with Megatone Records.

Here is the list of great songs:

    OVER AND OVER
    I TRIED TO FORGET YOU
    CHANGES
    TIPSONG
    DOWN, DOWN, DOWN
    LOVE GROWS UP SLOW
    I BEEN DOWN
    NEVER TOO LATE
    NEW BEGINNINGS
    THINKING RIGHT
    CANT FORGET THE LOVE
    TOO HOT TO SLEEP
    GIVE IT UP
    HERE IS MY LOVE
    CANT YOU SEE
    OOO BABY BABY
I CANT BELIVE IM IN LOVE

I cant tell you how many times Ive played this. Ive played it Over and Over, its absolutely fabulous. buy it while you still can.

I wish Fantasy would release Sylvesters "sell my soul" album. I want that oon Cd, too. But I guess they are too busy with "more important things":(

speaking of Sylvester, I also just bought another great CD from amazon. Its called Two Tons, "get the feeling". It is a compilation put together in the 90s, of the best Martha and Izora stuff since they went on their own.
If you like "Its raining men" you will love all these songs. I used to live in New Jersey in the late 90s. I used to hear a couple of these songs on KTU at the time, but didnt know who it was. Im happy that I now have the CD. If you dont have this, you need to get it, even if just for this one great disco song:
    DO YOU WANNA BOOGIE, HUNH?
this song is absolutely amazing. Its such a great disco song. I am really impressed with "the girls" Here it was, the early 80s, during the "disco sucks" campaign, and they just went on making great disco songs like it was 1977. You go girl!
