Walked into my first Disco and playing was Heavens in the Backseat of my Cadilac!
That song blew my away back then!

Though not considered Disco, I remember Sylvia's "Pillowtalk" from '71 as changing my musical world into what became Disco.

Sort of a 3-way tie for first disco song. If we consider 1975 as the start of the 'official' disco era then it would have to be Van McCoy's "The Hustle". But I'd also consider "Brazil" by the Ritchie Family and "Dreamin' a Dream" by Crown Heights Affair as the first songs that I personally associate with disco.

The rock stations were playing David Bowie's "Young Americans" in 1975 and that has a disco feel to it too which upset some rock reviewers.I guess disco faded in during 1974 & 75 but died out with a bang in 1979.

Either Gloria Gaynor - Never Can Say Goodbye, or Silver Convention - Fly Robin Fly.

Gloria's song was released first, but I think it wasn't until the Silver Convention song that I really took notice of the "disco sound" that was beginning.

I have been listening to music since my ears could pick up sound

So i'm not sure what the first "Disco" song I heard was, but the 1st song I ever bought with my own money was a 45 of Blue Magic's version of "We're On the Right Track" at the age of 10 (along with the 45 of Norman Conners' "You Are My Starship")...and as I remember, I was pretty broke after that..... :lol:
...but it was worth it!

How about these songs: "Honeybee" by Gloria Gaynor, "Keep On Truckin'" by Eddie Kendricks, and "Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart" by The Trammps are the first ones I remember. Although the song is considered more funk than disco, how about "The Theme From Shaft" by Isaac Hayes (1971)?

"I'm Your Boogieman/Keep it Coming Love"- KC& The Sunshine Band.
When I heard this song for the first time in a small, obscure disco back in 1975-1976, I didn't realise the combination was on the LP, I thought the DJ mixed it....I was hooked for life, long live DISCO!!!!

I remember hearing Gaynor's Never Can Say Goodbye but not knowing at the time, that it was part of this new phenomena called disco.

The first place I heard the word was from the lips of Dick Clark on American Bandstand....something along the lines of: "It was a big hit the first time around but you've never heard it quite like how you're going to hear it now. There's a new sound out these days. It's called Disco and ladies and gentlemen, it's huge. Here singing Brazil is the Ritchie Family!"

I will never forget that thrilling moment.

The first one I remember hearing and liking, was "I love to love (but my baby loves to dance)" by Tina Charles. I was 5 years old at the time.

Hello Guys... This is an interesting thread here... I'm just a bit confused.... I remember Sylvia's "Pillow Talk", Norman Conner's "You Are My Starship" & David Bowie's "Young Americans"... They were all great songs and I love them to this day....But....Were these really "disco" songs?? :roll: Maybe they were.... But I'm not sure why they're classified as "disco"? Thanks for explaining and take care...

Like most of the guys at my school, I was into rock - Yes, Zeppelin etc. For me, soul music was The Stylistics and the other stuff in the charts.

Then, aged 16, I walked into a club where they played all this sophisticated US imported soul and disco music. The killer track that first night? Roy Ayers - Running Away. That did it for me! I have been hooked ever since. And Running Away is still my all-time favourite track!

He didn't. Someone who posted above said this. This is NOT a disco song in my book. lol!

I think the first song I heard that was mentioned above is Armed and Extremely Dangerous by First Choice. I was about 9-10 years old and the song actually scared me!! :( (talkin about some man being extremely dangerous). I remember walking across a bridge with every car blasting this song!

However, I didn't hear the term "disco" until a couple of years later. :)

Growing up dad listened to rock Zeppelin, Doors all that. Mom was the one as soon as dad went to work and cranked up the disco and the Motown. First songs I remember listening to were Boogie Shoes, If I Can't Have You, and More More More..

Probably "woman " by Barrabas, Local Bands used to perform this song in High School dances, although at the time I had no idea Discotheque clubs existed. :-?

It's hard to tell acurately, but I'd go maybe with
MFSB - TSOP - Sound of Philly
At age 12, I attended the 1975 Montreal International Auto show, and I recall being impressed by cute chicks dancing to this music on the General Motors stage. Too bad I was not old enough at that time to get into night clubs, I was born 5 years too late.
