al naafi-WHAT?

I have this old record with breaks and beats that have been sampled a thousand times. I know it's "Al-Naafiysh(The Soul)" by Hashim but what does "Al-Naafiysh" mean?

Hashim (=Arabic for decisive) and Al-Naafiysh is what the title says, it's also Arabic for the "Soul". Hashim was born and raised as a Catholic but converted to Islam, a little while before making that record in 1983.
