I have loved this song since it was released - and have been looking for a 12" version almost as long :D
To the best of my knowledge, there is no 12" version of the original song, though I did hear mention of a remix? a few years ago, can't confirm it though, maybe someone else can.... :o

There is the excellent Pumpin' Dolls 2001 remix...clocking in at over 10 minutes. It does a nice job of updating the song without totally destroying its brilliance. I see it is available to be downloaded on AOL Music.

There were two pretty good covers of it as well in the past few years...one was by Masterboy (vocals are warbled a la Cher's Believe with a keyboard very similar to Double You's Please Don't Go). The other cover was done by MarQus...quite nice too...but the Pumpin' Dolls mix with original Chris Cross vocals is the best. 8)

Vince Montana did a cover via the Montana Orchestra around that same time. Its on the Heavy Vibes album, and I think there were some remixes. Unidisc put out the CD of the album, padded with the 12" remixes of tracks from that album, some time ago.

    8) Granted the album itself or even Chris Cross as an artist was geared toward adult contemporary pop, that doesn't stop the song from still being a smoker! :) Chalk it up to a "one hit wonder" in the catagory of Disco if you must, but don't dismiss the song just because of where it originates. As far as "single songs" from an otherwise "non-disco" album/artist goes, let us not forget.......
"Miss You" the Rolling Stones, "Do You Think I'm Sexy" by Rod Stewart, "Pipeline" by Bruce Johnston(i'm still having problems believing this song came from a "Beach" Boy :D ), "I'm Swearin' to God" by Frankie Valli and I'm sure many many more...
It all boils down to personal preference, but I think it's safe to say most people find Ride like the Wind a likeable tune

My tainted memory had far more people hating it.

Why is it being listed with honest-to-god disco tunes ???
....Did it really get any play in any club anywhere ?????? :P Anyone ??

Actually, your fellow Jerseyite Frankie Valli had a good number of other disco songs, including "Our Day Will Come", "Soul", and "Let It Be Whatever It Is" which are pretty awesome.
