i have thelma houston's "don't leave me this way" on a 1 sided 12 inch single.the time is 9:35. much longer than i remember it being. the label says "disco phase 1". dp1-101. NO songwriter, producer, arranger credits. the song has been put into a time-warp sound...compressing and expanding. there is a voiceover near the beginning saying "and the motown hits keep on coming".were there more in this series?

    Hi California Mike,

Sounds like the people on this label ripped off the Hot Tracks remix. It is exactly as you describe, running over 9 minutes. The remix first appeared on their Hot Classics #5 and then on the Hot Classics Box Set.

BTW, this is the mix Jussi and I were referring to when we said 'phasing' can be used to excess.

Now, this is interesting. I guess I have to find out which came first --- the chicken or the egg. I could be wrong but I think 79/80 is before Hot Tracks. So... who is ripping whom?

Let you know what I find out.

I had this remix but gave it away (or sold it, I really don't remember) because it just annoyed me!

Hot Tracks is notorious for overdoing the studio tricks. They have created some classics in their day, for sure (it was the Hot Tracks remixes that made hits out of Donna Summer's "Work That Magic" and Vicki Shepard's "All I Ask of You," to name just two that come to mind), but anyone who has ever heard their "Gloria in 3-D" knows what I'm talking about. Some of you guys think "Gloria" is on Hell's Playlist now--you should hear this remix...!

A really good remix of "Don't Leave Me This Way" is the Robert Racic Mix, which extends the song (and a lot of Thelma's notes) very nicely to 9:07.

"Gloria in 3-D" is the absolute suckiest remix I have ever heard.
