An educated guess could be that the artist is the Chi-lites because their lead singer is Eugene Record who recently passed.
Another Eugene is Euguen Wilde but he is more 1980's retro soul than disco.
I have a tape with a song on the end that I don't recognize. It is a Disco song with a male singer trying to hit on the ladies who in turn tell him they are not interested. Then they ask his name and he replies "My name is Eugene". The song cuts off shortly after that so I do not have much else to go with. Can anyone help on this one? Thanks.

I have this on either a Disconet or Hot Tracks--Disconet, I believe.
It's by an odd named group--I think the title is "My Name Is Eugene"... I'll have to check the label--if no one has already given the answer by tomorrow.
I wanna say " ______ & The Variable Speed Band " is part of the group name but I may be mixing things up.
later--
OK, did a google search and it's by: Crazy Joe & The Variable Speed Band; I think it was on a Disconet that had "Jack & Diane" by John Mellencamp on the flip side or maybe that was on the other disc.
Hope this helps.
Marky, you nailed it. Thanks for your time and effort. Co-written by Ace Frehley of KISS.....interesting! Thanks again. GS
For the record, what I had was titled Eugene Goes To School on Disconet with Karen Young's Detour and Simple Minds & Culture Club on the flip side.
Eugene sounds like a prototype for the rude, crude Andrew Dice Clay character...let me whip out my pepperoni or whatever he says in Brooklynese...  :P
