DJSONIC northern soul is many things and many styles, it could be anything from the last 40 years to a new release today theres just too many records, yes theres lots of disco in there and many are very rare, theres just too many to throw some at you ,the best way is to say what youve been listening to and ill tell you some in that style.

Helplessly by Moment of Truth is a great cut. Explore the Philly Groove label's artists like Delfonics, Nat Turner, Ultra High Frequency, and Quickest Way Out.

I never quite understood what a Northern Soul song was really all about. It's a British thing, I guess. My layperson's understanding is that it's just uptempo dance/soul music. So stuff like Dreamworld by Don Downing, and a lot of the stuff on those volumes of Disco Gold could pass off as 'discoteque' music, but aren't exactly true examples of disco music like the Philly stuff.

Hi Disco Funk: You should ask Discodisk to explain the schism on the Northern Soul scene, when DJ's Ian Levine and Colin Curtis began to take Blackpool Mecca (one of the key venues on the scene) increasingly towards Disco, whilst the most famous Northern club of the era Wigan Casino rejected this direction. Discodisk was there at the time, so it would be straight out of the horses mouth, so to speak.

Are many US people aware of the track 'It Really Hurts Me Girl' bt The Carstairs, which was a pivotal Northern Soul track (first played by Levine at the Mecca)?

Well said Greg, I too don't know that much about NS, but increasingly I am finding little nuggets from NS that are BIG hits in Underground Disco ....DD can you shed some light on this as Greg mentioned,....and any crossover hits/Underground tunes would be helpful ??

Hi, Found this site by chance, normally post on Starpoint Radio or JazzSoul Sites, but very interested to see another Jersey person on here, so thought i would say hello to you all, and after reading the Northern soul thread thought you may be interested to find out more,
there is a DVD called the Strange world of Northern Soul available, which is a 6 disc compilation of over 270 tracks of Northern Soul how it started, who started it, and where it started from.

    (for the guy from Jersey)
I do a northern Soul Night at the Soliel on Saturdays, then do a Hour at the Havana Next door, so pop in and introduce yourself, it would be good to meet up with some other funksters over here.
