Oscars....schmoshcars. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Is it me, or are the Oscars a really boring concept, now fully living up to that billing ?

Doesn't appear to me that there are any movies of distinction or particular artistic merit. I'm not surprised about "Bareback Mountain".

I've heard "Munich" is just so much political posturing and PC BS.

I haven't yet and would like to see "Capote". I was a fan of his when he was alive and would like to compare the movie with the facts of his life as I remember them. His only real claim to fame was "In Cold Blood", which I read in H.S. and found to be quite excellent.

I am not a movie buff whatsoever but I did see Good Night and Good Luck. It is a fantastic film! Certainly not recommended for those looking for action and romance...just a very intelligent re-telling of a piece of history that I knew nothing about.

What I found most fascinating was the subdued, somewhat tense aura throughout the movie....a result of the black and white cinematology, 50's conservatism and heavy cigarette smoke lingering in the air in most scenes.

It certainly has elevated my appreciation for George Clooney.

this is true, the movie is very long and un-even, some great parts but the lame predictable "speeches" I could have done without, oh, yes, they managed to portray the CIA as the protectors of terrorists, but , what else can you expect from the mind of the Hollywood left.

Bingo! The primary reason why I don't go to many movies these days. I just refuse to sit through Hollyweird's left wing propaganda.

I thought "Munich" proved there's still some - some, not much, mind you - creativity left in the sickeningly saccharine mind of Steven Spielberg, who continuosly insists on Teaching us with American Morality tales, all family values and a teardrop shed in the end. "Munich" actually manages to resemble the cutting edge political dramas of the early/mid 70's, the most important era in American filmmaking: Scorsese, Coppola and De Palma emerging, Michael Ritchie doing "Prime Cut", Woody Allen getting bigger, "Nashville" opening, Tobe Hooper drawing blood, Ben Gazzara and Gena Rowlands showing what acting is all about, the list goes on and on. Never mind the politics o"Munich", watch the cinematic language and the editing. While never in the league of Ang Lee's sublime film, Spielberg's thing is still cinema as we used to know it before the onslaught of the multiplex and the realese of "Big Momma's House 2". Haven't seen "Capote" yet so can't pass judgement on "Best Film" but then again, "Best Film" means "best American film" and that really says it all...

Of the 5 best film nominees I only saw CRASH, that I hated, but then it's the kind of "serious drama" stuff that always get nominated (like MILLION DOLLAR BABY last year, and so many others).
I saw 2 of the documentary features nominated and I recommend the ENRON movie. MURDERBALL is OK but a bit too American for foreign audiences.
PARADISE NOW was shown here last year and had great word of mouth, but I didn't see it.

Really, I suppose in the USA all this is well known, but for me it was kinda surprising the extents these guys went to in order to keep drawing those big numbers...
It's basically a TV-like documentary, but with plenty of ex-employees' testimonies and, more important, recordings of confidential meetings and phone calls. There's some amazing stuff.

Don't waste your time with the "Constant Gardener" then, another left wing propaganda piece that even includes the obligatory anti-Iraq war for oil speech rant, and this is even before the movie develops into the “anti-western pharmaceutical corporations that are using poor indigenous people of Africa as Guinea pigs making billions releasing defective medicines to the unsuspecting world", main theme.

This time the British intelligence is protecting the evil doers by paying off corrupt local African officials and murdering and threatening whistle blowers that venture to close to the "truth", all this with the approval of higher ups accomplices in the British Government no less, if the dizzying "constant editing" reminiscent of MTV videos doesn't drive you crazy first then the lame and old tired story line replete with leftists anti-western society rants and symbols (they even squeeze “Revolutionary Che” in there) should make you wish for a local power outrage to put this wild turkey to sleep……...

The Constant Gardener sucked IMO big time. Crash was OK, Munich was OK, Bareback was well... Bareback, Capote was OK, neva saw Good Night ... so I'm obviously not watching the Oscars. To be honest I hardly ever watch award shows. I was a huge fan of the MTV award shows, but even that got old. I listen to the radio and my cd's more that TV anyhow!
