    Deutsche Television Disco prediction

The German tv station DW's weekly "Euromax" show focused on disco yesterday. Their prediction was the music is now making a major comeback - now we've heard this a few times before during the last decade haven't we. Now however there seems to be a sudden onslaught of revival nights in Deutschland, and there's Madonna of course. Maddy got interviewed and she promoted the original spirit of disco, etc. Djs discussed 70's sounds, and yes, inevitably, a clip from Saturday Night Fever was shown. But Maybe This Time things will be different, ja? There's that "Poison" track now very big in Europe, and it utilizes actual slippery Munich-style violins, exactly like they used to be. While obviously there's no going back to the trancendental heights of true Munich Classics such as "Pretty Maid" of exactly 30 years ago, the Germans could well still haff ways of making you dance...

Disco Fritz, jaja ! Germany was and is always very discominded. Lots of Eurodiscostuff came out of that country. Almost every New Year's Eve, like the past one, they have a Disco-Cultnight where they show original clips from the Golden Age. Marianne Rosenberg's "Ich bin wie du" is one of THE classics and certainly in gay-circles.

But....is the rest of Europe following? I don't know. A lot of people are discovering the classic grooves but in da clubs it doesn't show yet. There's still a Rap/RNB blitzkrieg going on and youngsters headbang on Trance and Hardfloor.

Belgium has a Discorevival, yes, proven by the enormous succes of the recent Donna Summer and Pointer Sisters concerts. France is also following but I don't think we can speak of a worldwide revival yet.

Like Bernie once replied: in the U.S., great Disco-acts are usually booked on Statefairs and Supermarkets. I don't know if it's changed yet over there but a fact is that Europe has more respect for the Discogods. Here they are major acts!

Fact is that more and more people are fed up with the modern dance-muzak. But will it revive Disco or will another musicstyle surface? Let's wait awhile!

I saw that edition of Euromax, as I try to catch it every night...One of the presenters called Karin Helmshteadt (I think) is a babe-and-a-half.. Anyways, it's not strickly a total disco night in the club where the two DJs spin. They mix in new stuff with the old, and I got the feeling that they were trying to recreate something they didn't experience. Don't bother guys, I don't think you've got the expertise, judging by the programme.
