Salsoul Classics 2~ Which songs were big dance hits?

Hello Guys! :D One of my favorite CDs that I've been playing lately in my car has been "Salsoul Classics 2" I hadn't realized what a "greeaat" sound the Salsoul people produced but moreover, the huge number of disco songs that Salsoul put out! I don't remember some of the songs on this Salsoul collection, but they really sound good today. What is your opinion about this album? Which songs on this album were big dance hits in the clubs? Just wondering.... Mario 8)

Tangerine and Spring Rain were big hits in the club and especially on pop radio. These would be the two that had the most crossover appeal. (IMO)

But practially all these songs were big in the clubs.

    My favorites;

    War Dance
    Double Crossed
    Law & Order
    I Love New York

    Rio De Janeiro
    Let's Celebrate
    Newsy Neighbors
    Jingooooooooooooooooooooo
    (Love this one)

    Mario,

This, along with The Original Salsoul Classics, is a must-own for Salsoul aficianados. This compilation ventures away from the "monster" hits that dominated the first set and focuses on some less-popular (perhaps) but still first-rate cuts.

My favorites on Salsoul Classics 2 are the ones I would play over and over, which would include:

    I Love New York (Metropolis)
The Greatest Show On Earth (Metropolis)
    Mellow Lovin' (Judy Cheeks)
    Dancing Into The Stars (Logg)
    Double Crossed (First Choice)
    Spring Rain (Silvetti)
    Rio De Janeiro (Gary Criss)

I wish further Original Salsoul Classics would have been issued after this because there are so many great Salsoul tracks out there that haven't been professionally compilated, at least as far as US editions go. If that were the case, they would have to include the following Salsoul classics:

Dance A Little Bit Closer (Charo)
    Love Machine (Claudja Barry)
    More (Carol Williams)
    Everyman (Double Exposure)
    Dancin' Fever (Claudja Barry)
    Cheaters Never Win (Love Committee)

Regardless of omissions from both volumes, they should belong in any disco lover's collection. I bought this about five years ago and think it's a wonderful CD. My only complaint is that the sound quality on Metropolis' "I Love N.Y." is inferior. It starts out good, and then the sound deteriorates from the middle to the end.

Two tracks on this compilation stick out. The Greatest Show On Earth by Metropolis was produced by Pete Bellotte and Thor Baldrusson, who were behind Donna Summer's records at the time of this release (early 1978). It has the riffs straight from Donna Summer's I Feel Love and sounds nothing like one would expect from the Salsoul label. Mellow Lovin' by Judy Cheeks sounds like an Abba song with Yvonne Elliman vocals, another out-of-left-field tune for Salsoul Records (also from 1978). Both records are terrific and I play them repeatedly after one listen. They are very good.

It seems that these days, the only Salsoul compilations are coming from the United Kingdom (via Suss'd). While they have done quite a job in re-issuing Salsoul music, looking at their compilations and the songs included reaffirms the belief that less is more. Too many obscurities and unnecessary versions make their compilations hard to swallow. The US versions of Salsoul compilations are definitive.

I agree that this is a very good Salsoul compilation, that has a better tracklisting than most.

    My favourites are:

    Moonboots - ORS
    Funtown - Rafael Cameron
    War Dance - Kebekelektrik
    Let's Celebrate - Skyy
    Jingo - Candidio

Yes, this is such a cool track. I'm not a fan of euro synth, and I dislike dance tracks that ride the snare on every beat (like Bohannon's favorite drum patterns). But Moonboots has just the right balance of funk and electro that its a thoroughly cool song.

My copy is this one made in Israel, there is another comp "the origina Salsoul classics" 20th anniversary Vol 1 that I pick up at the same time from Amazon hoping to have just about all the best ones , but months later I realised it was only the one Disc version even though the insert contains the second CD tracks, Amason also sells the 2 cd version but since both had the same cover it was confusing. I still need to decide if I should pick up the 2 cd version or that "Original Salsoul classic " one with similar tracks, I'm going to have to write it all down to avoid getting the same tracks, with so many different salsoul comps with different versions and lenths is a pain.
