It jumped in and out of the number one position 3 times, in, out, in, out, in, out!

Chic's LE FREAK . Big record . Big big record.
So big in fact , it was Atlantic Records all time biggest-selling single out of the entire output of that mega-label . 8)
There is another component of the super hit's history that is noteworthy .
By December of 1978, LE FREAK had shot straight up to #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 . But then, that's when it became a most unusual Number One .
--- I'd venture to guess it was the only single ever to pull this particular chart stunt .... ( ??? )
What was so freaky about Chic's LE FREAK reign at the top ??
???

You got it :D .......... ahhh..... freak in , freak out : freak in , freak out : freak in, freak out !!
What an odyssey at the top :
First disco star , Barbra Streisand along with jazz singer Neil Diamond take their duet YOU DON'T BRING ME FLOWERS to the top on December 02.
But Chic's song is so hot it shoves them aside on December 09.
However Neil and Bab's hadn't really played out their peak yet and so they rebound to the top on December 16.
That lasted for one week when Chic resurges uncontrollably to #1 on December 23.... staying there 2 weeks to finish out the year .
Then along comes 1979 as well as the Bee Gees ... who always have to go to Number One .... so their song "TOO MUCH HEAVEN moves to the top on Jan 06 and stays there for two weeks .
But incredibly, Chic remains hot and waits it out to take Le Freak back to #1 on January 20th.... where it rules for yet another three weeks .
Six weeks total at #1 one... over a nine week span.
Pretty impressive performance for a lil' disco record . 8)
.............. So who finally bumped Chic and LE FREAK off once and for all on Feb. 10, 1979 ?
----------------Rod Stewart with yet another lil' ol' disco number .... DA YA THINK I'M SEXY which then had its turn at the top for the next four weeks . 8)
