Hey, I can't watch that American version but we have the same contest over here in Belgium.
The funny thing is that all the winners turned out to be unsuccessful nobody's and the runners-up became the big stars, like f.i. Natalia who recently gave ten sold-out concerts with da Pointer Sisters, but lost in this contest in 2004.
Does the same thing happen in the good ol' US of A?
no sir.... the only one that is struggling is from the 2nd season.
Reuben Studdard
We get American Pop Idol broadcast over here and it is must see TV in our house. Simon Cowell has just completed a series of 'X' Factor which is the latest incarnation of Pop Idol here in the UK. So it's like he's never been away! It's a slightly different format and the winner went on to have the Christmas 'No1' and third biggest selling single in the UK of 2005.

A real yawner tonight didn't you think ..... the auditions out of Frisco. Not much there . The highlight ..... a Coca Cola ( :P ) commercial featuring Barry White music .....

Not sure why , but its quite hilarious to watch these fools sing ....completely clueless as to how @&$#@ they sound and then their expressions as Simon & crew reveal it to them ...................................

As said earlier we get Pop Idol broadcast on satellite/cable on ITV2 on Fridays (repeated Sunday). It was reported today in the UK that it is the most successful export to the US ever and that Cowell has just signed a five year deal with Fox TV. The article also stated that Kelly Clarkson is the biggest selling artist of 2005 globally (not sure about that myself).
It is an amazing phenomena this show - and the relationship between Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon is fascinating. I am giving up gigging on Friday nights to watch it!! :o

headlamp, you guys get to watch American Idol?
Oh yes.. It was on last night, the Boston auditions and the first week in Hollywood. It is compulsory TV viewing on a Friday night in our household. I think last night's show began to show some of the talent. Like that 17 year old girl, the 16 year old girl with long hair and the grey haired guy are the 'stand-out' ones so far....we know Paula Abdul, Randy and of course Simon, but Ryan Seacrest - who is he? Why does he have his own paving stone in Hollywood - is he that big over in the US?Originally Written by efunk_adelic

Glad your household is watching Headlamp. Is this your first season? It's really quite fun to watch it from the beginning this way . How about the guy who thought he sang alot like Cher !! And Simon told him he should do a drag routine! The guy was quite put off by that advice !
I'm getting a kick out of the lil' crying cowboy who'd never seen the ocean before ... can't help but like him . . but I sense his days are numbered
There's something about the shave headed guy who married the older woman with kids .... keepin' my eye on him ....
When they sing as groups ... thats when the real fun begins .........

It's actually our third!! The last one we watched through from the very beginning. Bo was the favourite in our household, I agree the young cowboy won't make the 'cut', nor the other young 16 year old boy....I do hope that girl who has laryngitis makes it through - I liked the sound of her.
We also have in the UK something called the X Factor, also done by Simon C, with Sharon Osbourne & another producer guy - Louis Walsh. The difference is that anyone of any age can compete and there is also a 'groups' section. When the vote is tallied at the end of the show, the lowest two are then prsented to the judges and they have to vote off one. Naturally they vote for the one that is not their act. Last year Louis kept his Irish folky band (The something Sisters) and voted off this amazing Soul singer (Marie). The controversy reigned for weeks both on the show and in the papers. Alas the best singers, two late thirty somethings, great soul singers, lost out to the young Justin Timberlake type - it just reflected the demographics of who watches these shows..
I can't stand those twins that are constantly finding fault with everything.

the finger pointing that they do and their cockiness is so annoying! Neither will make the cut.... they both think they're "all that" pftttt! They keep showing a segment where Simon is tired of their bitching.... you know it's about them.
the bald guy is gonna make it to the top 24, no doubt. the black 16 year old girl, grey haired male, are huge standouts. this is gonna be another great competition.
I've pretty much watched all the seasons this one seems like there will be a good fight to the top. Any bets as to who wins top 10?

wow!!!!!!!!!! what a great show tonight.... not only did we see a lot of them screw up, do great and how 'bout those Britnum Twins!
Are they making asses of themselves or what? flmao
I gotta tell you the 2 more most important things
not to do is be cocky or drama queens. They will not make the Top 24.... guaranteed! I'm sure that both of them are gonna save the best for last.... I can't wait 'til next week.
From another site:
Twins Derrell and Terrell Brittenum have bonded out of jail after being charged with forgery, and they said they have, predictably enough, been kicked out of American Idol 5.
Their lawyer, Maurice Bennett, tells MTV.com that they were scheduled to fly to LA Sunday, but that they were “uninvited” by Idol producers. FOX has still not announced that they’ve officially been dropped from the competition, perhaps because there are already-taped segments with the twins that the show will air.
It doesn't make sense to watch American Idol tonight to find out who'll be in the top 24 male/female to move on.Originally Written by nrgbeat
Just like the Olympics!!!!
I hope a rocker does win it this year! Bo had Carrie beat by a long shot last year. What the hell is she doing now? Hersheys commercials? Come on now...Shes the female version of Rueben Studdard.
Carrie Underwood is currently sitting at #1 on the Billboard country charts with her song "Jesus Take The Wheel" and her cd is also the #1 country album. The album also peaked at #2 on the Pop album chart and still in the top 20.Originally Written by Angelina77
I know there's lots of sour opinions in regards to country music (I like older country...not into any current country music) but seeing that Kenny Chesney was one of the top ten hottest tickets in entertainment last year, I think Carrie's doing pretty okay since her Idol days.
