If you ever find out, I'd like to know because all of those 70s cop shows had great incidental music (that's the background music). Really jazzy, funky stuff that should have been put onto record. I doubt even the original recordings still exist. They were probably mixed straight into mono for transfer onto film (those shows were recorded on film). Baretta has some great music as well. I think most of those great grooves were written and recorded by Dave Grusin.

Unfortunately the Tom Scott version of 'Gotcha!', the theme tune to Starsky & Hutch, sounds different on his LP from the one used on the TV show. I didn't think it had as much grit to it.

There was an LP named Rhythm Heritage (or maybe that as tom's band at the time) from 77-78 that had a version on it. However it may be the same version Dico Funk mentioned.

Actually the group was Rhythm Heritage. They were a studio band that did movie and TV show covers. Their most well known release was Theme From SWAT. I think they covered 'Gotcha' on their second album.

I had to double check on the AMG, and he is credited for 'wind' on Discofied, the first LP for Rhythm Heritage. Perhaps he had bad gas? :)

While I believe he recorded the theme song for the TV show intro, I think he re-recorded it for album release.

NEVER check AMG! Their info is so bogus and wrong 98% of the time..to give you a few examples, they said Peter Brown was dead at one point, Johnny Nash's 1979 LP prod by Van McCoy was released in 1969, Cerrone disapeared off the face of the earth after Supernature, incorrect track titles on LPs...should I go on?

oh ****, almost forgot the actual reply to your post

There was a CD released in the late 90s when they were puttin 70s TV show music out for the public..and Starsky & Hutch was one of em. From what I recall it was like a 20 or so track disc
