    Cameo and Bar-Kays

I have this CD "Funky Stuff" Funk Essentials with various extended tracks of funk/disco material. I had this CD for a looong time - but I can never get enough of listening to "RIGOR MORTIS" by Cameo and "Too Hot to Stop" by Bar Kays.

These tracks are steller and my question is "WHAT ALBUMS did these tracks originally appear on and on what label???? :-? They appear in extended format on this cd with excellent quality sound. Rigor Mortis 6'15 and Too Hot to Stop 6'24.

    LP --- TOO HOT TO STOP ---- 1976 ---- (Mercury) ---- #7 Soul / #69 Pop

Dave Thompson's FUNK book rates this at a 9 out of 10 and the best work of The Barkays

    Book's specific comments :

" How great is this album ?? As good as "SHAKE YOUR RUMP " and the title track .......exhilaratingly punching out the next person to say that disco killed funk."
    The singles:

    " SHAKE YOUR RUMP TO THE FUNK " ---- 1976 ---- #5 R&B/ # 23 pop
    " TOO HOT TO STOP" ---- 1977 ---#8 R&B / #74 pop

    :)

    same book :

    "RIGOR MORTIS " :

Blackmon ( group founder) was working in a gent's outfitter near Wall St. at the time , and was in the middle of a fitting when he heard "RIGOR MORTIS " had become a WBLS radio "World Premier"--- meaning it would be played once every two hours for the next week .
"I just left the customer standing there waiting for me to chalk his pants.," Blackmom recalled. "I knew right then it was all over."

    "RIGOR MORTIS " 1977 --- Chocolate City --- #33 R&B / #103! pop

    from their LP : CARDIAC ARREST ---- #16 R&B / # 110 pop 7 out of ten rating ... their best , #9 , .... being 1986's WORD UP

by the way .............. what was the name of their follow-up single to "RIGOR MORTIS " ....... :-? ......???? ............

Funk Funk was the second installment of that series. It has a Barry White instrumental and a rare track by Orange Krush.

The Orange Krush track being referred to is 'Action'. They were the group that played on those early Kurtis Blow records like The Breaks from what I understand. I don't think they did anything beyond 'Action'.

The version on Funk Funk is actually incomplete. I have a volume of Ultimate Breaks and Beats on vinyl with Action, and while their version is edited, it includes a vocal part (that robotic high-pitched voice) in the intro saying 'look baby I'm sorry' just before the song kicks off.

Paul , "FUNK FUNK" was Cameo's third single which went t to #20 R&B .

The follow-up to "RIGOR MORTIS" was :
    ---------------------"POST MORTEM" ! :P  ! ..... #70 R&B

    I kid you not !!! :)

Interesting. In retrospect I wonder if they wanted to take advantage of the popularity of the Parliament funk style in releasing that track. 8)
