Films - the best of 2005?

    IMO:
    1. Iberia - hypnotic nu-flamenco/jazzdance presentation staged by Carlos Saura
    2. Empire of the Wolves/L'Empire des Loups - fabulous style over substance with several great setpieces, cool sets and ultraviolence. In other words, best possible entertainment, and it's got Jean Reno
    3. L'Innocence - genuine, disturbing vision and artsy pretension in equal measures
    4. The Descent - unflinching horror like it once was
    5. Trouble - giallo lives
    6. Life Aquatic of Steven Zissou - even if only for those colours
    7. Calvaire / The Ordeal - for the rare nostalgic change to see members of the audience fleeing the auditorium in panic - doesn't happen much these days

Jussi's choice of independant movies :D I only know the Belgian pic "Calvaire" but I haven't seen it

Generally I don't like Belgian movies, even not the worldwide acclaimed "Memory of a killer".

A friend of mine gave me some 70's stuff with a highly philosophical content. I must say I really found these ones very amusing. They absolutely represent a great era

    1.Auto-stoppeuses en chaleur
    2.La femme robot
    3.Le sexe qui parle
    4.La perversion d'une jeune mariée
    5.Virgin among the living dead

What's not to like in "Calvaire": a man gets abducted by a member of a backwoods community as a substitute for a dead wife. There's cruxifictions, animal rape ( thankfully simulated, lucky us Catherine Breillat wasn't asked to direct...), hideous freak-out scenes, religious panic, human rape, retarded screaming, all the ingridients of a true crowdpleaser, Belgian style :-)
Le Sexe Qui Parle / Pussy talk was always a fave, but Virgin Among The Living Dead did so bore me upon it's realese and I haven't watched any tapes or dvds of it since. - The rest sounds promising, though!

"Virgin..." is not a great movie but it captures me with its erotic weirdness.

I made a little mistake, it's not "La Femme Robot" but "La Femme Objet", a French pornflic that deals with a mechanical female sexslave, designed by a SF-writer that can't be satisfied anymore by human women. It's like "Weird Science" but with more flesh

It's available on 1 DVD, together with "Pussy Talk".

Here's the link (I'm not placing the image, because I'm concerned about our younger visitors...and Paul  )

    And here's another 2 :
