    Sony BMG Apologizes!

Sony BMG is making a public apologie towards his customers and is offering a settlement after their Rootkit disaster.

People who bought a CD with the rootkit on can exchange them against a new one without the damn spyware and they can choose between 7,50 dollars (6,34 Euro) and 1 free download or they can get 3 free downloads.

However, the Californian Electronic Frontier Foundation does not withdraw it's lawsuit against the recordfirm. They insist the federal laws on spreading illegal spyware are broken.

And another cas is also evolving in New York:

Fortunately (I think), I haven't bought any new stuff lately.
Sony can go **** themselves though for trying to give people chump change for knowingly breaking the law and causing a lot of grief. An adequate response is to give each person the opportunity to buy a new $400 computer.

And in the first court case (New York), Sony BMG got away with it. They were not convicted because the judge agreed on the financial proposition the recordcompany has made to its "victims".

Some people are not satisfied with the verdict tough, they claim that their PC was damaged by the rootkit.

Let's face it, the Sonies have won the court battle but marketingwise this has caught them pants down and hopefully it's a message to the other firms to not repeat this kind of trickery again.

    I'm with Paul

they would have to buy me a new computer before I'd consider buying their products. I'm interested in the new INXS album but it's on Sony and now I'm suspicious. I find their apology very insulting.
