"Got Tu Go Disco"? No Thanks Pattie, No Thanks...

    :o
So, after a YEAR of tracking this song down, I finally get a copy (this same tale could be replaced with the song "Red Hot" by Mary Wilson) and boy...let down! As the theme from a musical, I would've hoped it was joyous and bouncy and fabulous. Instead, it's typical John Davis circa 1979. Some "disco effects", same drum beat, listless and dull. Doesn't really make me wanna get up and dance. "Disco..the way to go"...wow...I can see how 1979 was sort of a finale for disco as a pop culture phenom. Sure, tonnes of great, adventurous songs on the club charts then... then we get stuff like this. The same shouting girls and hand claps over & over. Meh. Colour me underwhelemed, but then again, I never was a fan of "Our Ms.Brooks".

That's my rant folks, apologies to all who cherish this record.

I think it's one of Pattie Brooks' better efforts, but I'm not a fan of Brooks either. It's interesting to note that the musical was such a massive flop that it appears that the song was quickly removed from Brooks' album at the time (the title of which escapes me at the moment). Earlier copies have it, later copies have a different number substituted in its place. Looks like everyone wanted to quickly forget it...

That was the '79 "Party Girl" album. I managed to find a cutout copy a while back with "Go Tu Go Disco".. I kinda like the song, though I'm not really familiar with her stuff beyond this LP.. The song just really sticks out on the album; it sounds like something they stuck on at the last minute. I guess it's no wonder since the rest of it was produced by Bunny Sigler backed by Instant Funk, and "Got Tu Go.." by Jurgen Koppers..

I love Philly productions in general, which is what the Party Girl album is (Bunny Sigler/John Davis), but this album was rather flat. I don't know if it was Patti's fault, the producers fault, or if Casablanca wanted a sanitized, soul-less disco LP. The only track by Patti Brooks I've ever really liked was 'After Dark'.

Aside from After Dark, my other two faves from Miss Pattie Brooks are:

    Girl, Don't Make Me Wait
& her cover of the First Choice undeserved flop This Is The House Where Love Died

I like these three a lot. The rest....

    Patti was a background singer
    for Donna Summer,so typically
her material was only as good as her producers. Her first Lp
"Love Shook" was her best and
and all 4 tracks charted very well. This along with "after dark" though is all that's
    really held up.
