Is the Fire & Rain title ("Make Love To Me") on 20th Century from 1976 the same song released by Helen Reddy on a Capitol 12" in 1979?
I recently bought the HR 12" (no songwriter credited) and noticed a song with the same title starts charting on 4/24/76.
Anyone remember? :-? :o
P.S. OK, I see by an entry in The Vault that the Helen Reddy version is also the same song done by Kelly Marie....but what about Fire & Rain?

Marky,
You may have just ended a years-long search for me. Hopefully I can find out tomorrow for sure.
Years ago I had a various artists "20th Century Sampler" on vinyl and the song I fell in love with was titled "Make Love to Me". I had recorded it on tape without listing credits and could never find the song again. (The vinyl disappeared - someone I know had sticky fingers. :x ) IF this is the same one then the answer to your question is, 'No'. This was one of those low tempo, female chorus, breathy-vocal type numbers. Very much the "pretty side" of disco. Lots of strings with the ladies repeating in a 'pulled-back' vocal track:
MAKE LOVE TO ME,
MAKE LOVE TO ME, 'CAUSE I NEED YOU.
See if I can verify all this tomorrow.
Nicky,
Kevin (in-the-groove) wrote this in another thread:
Make Love To Me - Fire & Rain: 20th Century issued a white label "for disco dj's only" 7" promo single of this. The length is 4:45 and was unavailable on either the lp or commercial 7". I think this was a different song than the Kelly Marie / Helen Reddy recordings. The writers are M. Freisner / P. McCarran. Not a very notable record IMHO... a breathy female vocal with a Bob Crewe-ish orchestral arrangement.
sounds like your mystery song!!!![]()
Hi NickNack,
That definitely is your mystery song! The disco dj pressing (TCD-57) has the 4:45 version on both sides... it sounds like they extended it by splicing an instrumental version into the middle of the song. The commercial 7" and lp versions are 3:41. I just found a copy which is currently listed on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4818874632&

Marky & Kevin,
Thanks, guys! No wonder I can't find the sampler --- it's a damn 7".

At least now I know I didn't imagine this damn song/tape I used to have.
Good thing I love those "breathy female vocals". Now to find the promo.
Kevin --- I just realized you found it on eBay. Maybe I'll luck out.

This week-end I came across and picked up the following single by FIRE AND RAIN :
"DON'T THROW IT ALL AWAY " .... 1974 20th Century written by G. Benson ( George ?) / D. Mindel
a mid-tempo tune with a Carpenters / Ann Murray sort of arrangement & vocal . Not disco in the least .... but a nicely stylized MOR number .... that now has me most interested in hearing this "MAKE LOVE TO ME " tune that they performed .
