Mike Theodore / Manhattan Love Song

    I had to post this.

I heard MANHATHAN LOVE SONG this sunday afternoon up to 7 times in sequence. I just can’t get the needle off the record. This always happens when I listen to this album.

It is a latin tinged song, but have you guys noticed the piano + brass + strings arrangement?? It is awesome!!! Specially the horns!!! After the break in the middle of the song, there is a brief latin piano arrangement which is exceptional, leading the song back to its main theme. The song is so well crafted from the beginning to the more discordant sounds in the end.

MIKE THEODORE is really a genius of an arranger.

Does anyone know if this KING ERRISON album was ever released on CD?? I have 2 vinyl copies which are relatively new, but the Westbound vinyl is terrible. Loads of crackle. Not to mention the distortion in the inner grooves by the end of the song.

Does MIKE THEODORE only have 2 albums on his own name??

Can anyone compile a small discography of his productions??

AFAIK, the King Errison has never appeared on CD. I lucked out and found a reasonably decent LP copy (my first was horrible), so I'll see what I can do for you...

I have never heard of Manhattan Love Song until I heard a short snippet on the
smooth groovers review podcast. It sounds great.
Are there any other King Errison Tracks. Does Manhattan Love Song appear on a
    compilation CD?

While "Manhattan Love Song" does not appear on any CD that I am aware of, another of Errisson's songs, "Magic Man" does appear on this CD >>> http://www.discomusic.com/cds-more/846_0_3_0_C/

King Errisson's 'Well Have A Nice Day' is also on one of the volumes of The Breaks series of CDs. That came from the same album as Manhattan Love Song.

With all respect to King Errison, I think the merit of the song goes to the writer/arranger/producer: MIKE THEODORE.

I mean, if you like that song, you should try to find other Theodore/Coffey tracks, not exactly King Errison songs.

To my understanging DISCO was not a DJ thing as it is the dance music of today, but it was a producer's work.

What I mean to say is:
One may like Charo's album DANCE A LITTL BIT CLOSER (for instance). One may like her singing, but apart from the voice, it is all Vincent Montana work as an arranger and producer and the Salsoul musicians that counts.

Definitely that album LA Bound was more of a Mike Theodore project than a King Errisson one. If you listen to the previous album Magic Man, it's got a totally different sound and feel to it. Errisson was more or less a session musician who managed to make his way to the forefront as an album artist, kind of like Ralph McDonald. McDonald though had more say in his work, from what I recall.
