    Savarese Mix

I bought a 5 cd set of a 5 hr New Years Eve 1978 set from Tom Savarese, in the mix there is a version of Sylvester "You make me feel mighty real", but I have never heard that version before, it has the Patrick Cowley signiature synths over the track, just like I Feel Love, and all his other remixes, is this a rare remix or a disconet, or what? please help. Thanks

I have an Ultimix version on a CD single re-issue, but I believe this was done in the 80's.

Here are a few snippets from this version:

There is also a live version from the "Living Proof" album. Patrick Cowley is playing on that version also. If you need a snippet from that, let me know and I'll post it.

Where did you buy the CDs? Are they direct feeds from the console into a player, or are the a recording from mic'd speakers?

    hipnogger-at first I thought
    it might be the Disconet
    "mighty real" medley by
    Bobby Vittereti,but I have
this set also and I don't
    remember it being used.
What disc number is the Sylvester track on and I will
    check this weekend for you.

I'm wondering it Tom overlaid Patrick Cowley's "MegaMix Trip 1" (from Disconet Volume 2 Number 9) with Sylvester. This Patrick Cowley piece is the EXACT same first breakdown that he later used in the Disconet version of "I Feel Love". Again, where did you get these CD's from?

Here is a snippet of the live version from Sylvester's Living Proof album:

There are 2 samples in this.

If you can post what you're version sounds like, it would be appreciated.

    Happy Holidays!

Swerzer-I got my set off of Ebay.Apparently the guy that's
selling them got a reel to reel
of the set from his father, who
put on a New Years Eve party
at 12 West in 1978(i think)

Hey Thom - I just got this same set off of Ebay - apparently the guy has many copies. What a deal! So thanks for that. When they arrive, I will listen to the Sylvester song and see if I can figure out this mystery.

Are these pressed CDs or CDRs?

They are CDRs made from original reel to reel tapes. The tapes are from Studio 54.

    Thom,
I received the set yesterday. In reference to the Sylvester tune (which is right after "Love & Desire") , although I see what you mean about the Patrick Cowley"I Feel Love" type synths, this is simply the original 12" version of "You Make Me Feel Mighty Real".

I don't know if this helps but there are some slight variations between the 12" and album versions. Comparing the two, I think the synth is more prominent on the album. The biggest difference is during the first breakdown...the album version has some wild Cowley synth sounds whereas the 12" leaves it out. Then during the last couple of minutes on the album version, Cowley goes synth-crazy while Sylvester hums a gospel-like 'oooh' (very nice 8) )...the 12" totally leaves this out probably to keep things clean for a better mixout.

While we're on the topic of this great set by Saverese, can anyone identify the title and artist on Disc 2, second track: New York City, with a vocalist who sounds very much like Marlena Shaw. It's not the Miroslav Vitous track...

Discodj-I was wondering the same thing-it's a great song
and it's not Metropolis or Andrea True either. This is
    dated 1978 or 79 right?

I finished listening to all 5 CD's - it's a great set to have with great songs. Two things really surprised me though

    1. Other than mixing from one song to the next, there is very little other DJ "magic" such as phazing, frequent edits with two copies, etc.......Many DJ's during this period did all sorts of wild tricks - I would have expected this from Tom Savarese.

    2. Because Savarese was one of the cornerstones of DISCONET at that time period, he never uses one DISCONET version during the entire evening (Sylvester, Amant, etc.)

Again, not a criticism.....just an obervation.
