You live within 20 minutes of at least three different malls.
You refer to all highways and interstates by their numbers.
Every year you have at least one kid in your class named Tony.
You know the location of every clip shown in the Sopranos opening credits.
You've gotten on the wrong highway trying to get out of the mall.
You know that people from North Jersey go to Seaside Heights, and people from Central Jersey go to Belmar, and people from South Jersey go to Wildwood. It can be no other way.
You weren't raised in New Jersey--you were raised in either North Jersey, Central Jersey or South Jersey.
You don't consider Newark or Camden to actually be part of the state.
You remember the stores Korvette's, Two Guys, Rickel's, Channel, Bamberger's and Orbach's.

Here's a bit of "Disco" trivia related to New Jersey I experienced first hand.Originally Written by Bernie
In the mid seventies (74,75,76) just as Disco was emerging Union City Cubans by the thousands used to flock to Miami Beach every summer and brought down here much of the "Disco Culture" of NJ and NYC clubs , including (first time I saw it) the "Hustle” and “Latin Hustle” steps and lots of music that was not known yet down here and certainly not played on local top 40 Radio, Beach Hotels (Surfcomber ,The Ritz ) used to set up "Temporary" Discos with removable dance floors, sound systems, etc to accommodate this migration of "Disco heads" or “Discotecos” as we called them.
During the day Disco Beach Parties by the sand and pools featuring hundreds of beautiful Cuban young women bikini dancing in every nick and cranny were all the rage, 8 track Boom boxes and Game Arcades jukeboxes jamming "El Bimbo" and "Kung fu fighting" etc filled the air with “Disco” music, and enterprising "Home/Club" Djs flocking down here to deal on beat mixed "Disco Tapes" in the streets and Pool Parties were selling out on a daily basis.
For us locals this years were nothing short of a non stop Disco party especially during this summer months, Disco by the beach during the day and Disco by night in the local clubs, Geee wizzzz, where did all those good times go? Where is the nearest time machine depot? Any one knows? :-?

I was living in Massachusetts then. Disco made it's way up from NYC fairly quickly then (summer of '74) but no hot Cuban girls.

Also, I don't know about now... but Guttenberg, NJ (in Hudson County), a town that streches from 67 to 70th Street south to West New York and north to North Bergen and from Kennedy Blvd to Boulevard East, had the most bars per square mile. I recalled about 10 of them back in the late 80's when I was a volunteer firefighter.

Many of the names of cities, counties and streets that make up New Jersey are taken directly from English and Dutch places or people. For example Hudson, Essex and Sussex counties just west of New York City - English. Bergen County - Dutch. Many of New Jersey's and New York's streets still have old Dutch names like Van Rypen, Bergen, Stuyvesant...

The British took over the Delaware colony and granted the land between the Delaware and the Hudson to Lord John Berkeley and Sir George Carteret. They named it "New Jersey" after the Isle of Jersey in the English Channel. (Now you know for whom the New Jersey towns of Berkeley Heights and Carteret were named.)

I met a guy named Dick Ziguns who runs a place called "Sideshows By The Seashore," which is the last authentic old-fashioned side show left in the country. I was a barker on a live thrill show involving this woman from Belgium who swam with sharks. I ran quarter pitch games. I did all kinds of things.
