    Mighty Real - Showstoppers

Just read the review and went to the web-site on this compilation.
    http://www.discomusic.com/cds-more/6664_0_3_0_C/
The songs look great. Don't Turn Around and Manhattan Shuffle are two of my favorites. Is this new?? Why were the other two CD's on the CANDYSTORECORDS web-site sold out? (Queens' Music & Morning Music) It also states: "Each track has been gloriously remastered from analog sources by Rick Rowe." I want to know what analog sources? Mater Tapes or a vinyl disc from someone's collection. I don't want to get burned again as I just spent 25 dollars on that new Tom Moulton distorted CD-R.

I've had a chance to listen to this CD some more and I must say the sound is not perfect on some of these tracks. Listening to "Shine On Silver Moon" really shows that it was taken from vinyl as it has vinyl-like distortion and the engineer was a little heavy-handed on the computer based noise reduction as you can hear the tell-tale underwater sound as it fades out at the end. Overall though this CD still has a nice selection of music.

    Second volume available now

Please note the second volume of our rebranded series is available now.
    MightyREAL A Dance Floor Retrospective 1980 -1988
    Morning Music

Being a co-producer of the series, I am decidely an impartial judge. I DO feel confident in saying that ALL of these tracks were fussed over to insure the listener would receive the "BIG ROOM" sound they remember from the dance floor. Many of the tracks are rare. Many of the tracks have not been re-issued on CD ever. The overall quality is excellent -

Any distortion from the remastering process is extremely minimal - you're in good hands here. Our engineer, Rick Rowe, is a legend in the field of audio restoration. His gold record engineering of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack was just the begining. His specialty is bringing the freshness out of "stale" tracks. Kudos to Rick!

I am very confident, mrbmarco, you will like what you hear. Our prices are way reasonable and the content can't be beat.

    Dear James:
    Thnks for the information.
Music from the master tapes on CD sound better than vinyl on CD. If I want vinyl on CD, I can over to my Friend Marc C's studio in his house. He has a great system to get the pops and clicks out of vinyl. But its not as good, no matter what you do--
It seems all the other genres of music find the master tapes. Its time disco does the same--

    Sound Quality

I'd like to respond to the vinyl/master tape issue. While compiling the first three CDs, we made our selections based on merit -beholding to no particular label. Because we didn't "feature" anyone's catalogue, initial response to our licensing requests was lukewarm. Over the course of negotiations, we secured master use rights, but few masters.

We discovered three basic truths about 12-inch single master tapes: 1). "They no longer exist". 2). "We have them somewhere, not sure where they are - I'm not going into that nasty basement..." 3) "Let's see how CANDYSTORECORDS does, then we'll find the tapes and release something ourselves." So, we had to work with what we could get. Our engineer did farm out every track to a noise reduction facility, then fussed with the sound in analogue steps - digitalizing the signal at the last step. Each CD is replicated (pressed), NOT duplicated (burned).

As we sell CD units and gather clout (you can get a shot of penicillin for that), we dream of the day we can DEMAND master tapes where applicable - OR ELSE! Please keep in mind, we're working from the dance floor on up, not a record label on down. This
compilation project is a full fledged treasure hunt: we know what we're looking for - just need to find it.

    Hi David,

I would like to thank you for taking time out to give us some honest and straightforward insight into some of the obstacles your label faces in getting music out. It is refreshing to see an open dialogue with the public which goes a long way in building trust. Continued success with your well thought out releases.
