    Sweet Somebody

Just bought the 12" version of "SWEET SOMEBODY" by Donna Allen. Her PERFECT TIMING album from 1987 is one of my all time favourites from the 80s. She had two big hits here in the UK - "Serious" and "Joy & pain". Was Sweet somebody a hit in the States ??
I dont think it charted here in the UK and that is shameful as its a great cover of the Shannon hit.

I don't recall this one--Billboard charted it for only 2 weeks peaking at #48 in 1987.

I remember the song by both Donna Allen and Shannon, though I preferred Donna Allen's version

It's a coincidence that someone mentions her. Years ago I heard a couple songs by her and was not impressed. Then I saw this almost generic import with 90% cover tunes from the last 20 years. The Donna Allen track was "Joy and Pain" from the late 80's. I remember hearing that about 15 years ago in NYC and never knew who it was. I'm not into a lot of her other work but for me her version of the Maze classic is the definitive one!

Thanks for the info guys... Not heard much from Donna Allan over the years but I believe she does quite a lot of session singing for artists like Gloria Estefan. Donna & Nicole McLoud were two great artists from the Miami area and I have all their singles/albums in my collection. Most of their tracks seem to have been produced by some guy called Lou Pace.
