    Dennis Parker "Like An Eagle"

    :o

Wow, I just sort of skipped over this in the past as it was A) on Casablanca B) was a man and C) had a title that made me think of ABBA. Boy, what a cool song....I threw it on a mix after Dance To Dance by Gino Soccio....very spacey. I looked it up this morning on the A-Z. It's a Morali production? Wow...very spare for him. Ha ha. Love the strings and the lack of real lyrics. It appeals to me, and I am not a fan of the Morali sound too much either.

I've enjoyed this track ever since I discovered it on that Casablanca 4 CD retrospective set. It's a wonderful mid tempo disco track. Would it be called a 'stepper' (another one of those sub-genre names)? I used to think of it as psychedelic disco because of all the phase distortion and the vocals on the track. Too bad the rest of Parker's album isn't of the same calibre.

I like it for the both the music and the much-more-visible queer angle, which was sadly missing from the Village People's music after Macho Man.

Probably my favourite Morali track.. A nice break from his usual campy style. Love the gay angle they used too, with those "cruisy" lyrics.. Again, love that darker sound too.. Maybe I'm alone in this, but I have a slight preference for the LP version; it just seems to flow a little better to my ears..

Yeah, its a pretty cool song. Its got its own unique wound, kind of "depressing" yet enjoyable, smooth, slow disco; quite nice!

Yes, that was part of the appeal. He was well-known by the Wade Nichols in the porn industry. I believe Dennis Parker was his real name. He committed suicide in the mid-80s.

The classic track is Like An Eagle--the rest is pretty forgetable, as I recall. But don't let me dash your dreams--- :P  Maybe you'll like the rest of it......

"New York By Night" has great lyrics, but the music is pretty weak. I'd agree that the rest of the album is not particularly memorable.

I dragged out my old copy of the album this evening & gave it a listen. Not too bad really. I always liked New York By Night better than Like an Eagle though.

It is pretty restrained for Morali. I never thought about that until I read the above posts. Never realized it was a Morali production...

All in all - when someone looks as good as Dennis Parker - I can forgive any musical shortcomings!

Maybe he was trying to make up for his own personal shortcomings.

I'll bet you could drive an SUV through Barbara after a pounding with that thing.

Are there any other disco singers besides Dennis Parker and Andrea True that did adult films that you can think of? Just wondering.

The only other one I can think of is Marilyn Chambers who did a 12" called "Benihana"
