Back on the old board, I had mentioned how the lyrics to Macho's cover of "I'm A Man" didn't make any sense to me. Someone kindly posted the lyrics from the original song by the Spencer Davis Group. However, listening closely to the Macho version, I'd still swear that this is what they're saying...

Well my blood just started hissing

from the whiskers on my chin

    never had no problems

'cause I always pay the rent

I've got no time for lovin'

'cause my tongue is sewed inside

    I stand outside creating

    all the grooving ken.com

I'm a man, yes I am, and I can't help but love you so

Well if I had my douch in batter

I would rather be with guys

All the gust in many chatter

showin' where our minds are at

    and relating to each other

there's no snuff that we can't see

    You're resisting all the formats

    but it's proving dignity

I'm a man, yes I am, and I can't help but love you so

So I got to keep my image

    while suspended on a drown

that looks out upon a dingle

    filled with people all anon

    with mangy ads protruding

and my heart is made of dough

and I never have no problems

and my butt is made of stone

I'm a man, yes I am, and I can't help but love you so...

Seriously folks, listen to the song and tell me that it doesn't sound like that!

Oh, ha ha ha ha ha! Graham, you crack me UP!!

I mutilate lyrics all the time, but I just blame it on my partial deafness (thanks to loud music my whole life)!

    Here's the real lyrics:

    I'm a Man

    (Winwood/Miller)

Well, my pad is very messy and there's whiskers on my chin

And I'm all hung up on music, and I always play to win

I ain't got no time for lovin' 'cause my time is all used up

Just sittin' 'round creatin' all that groovy kind of stuff

Well, I'm a man, yes I am, and I can't help but love you so

Well, I'm a man, yes I am, and I can't help but love you so

Well, if I had my choice of matter I would rather be with cats*

All engrossed in mental chatter showin' where our minds are at,

And relating to each other just how strong our will can be

In resisting all involvments with each groovy chick we see

Well, I'm a man, yes I am, and I can't help but love you so

Well, I'm a man, yes I am, and I can't help but love you so

I've got to keep my image while suspended on a throne

That looks out upon a kingdom filled with people all unknown

Who imagine I'm not human and my heart is made of stone

And I've never had no problems and my toilet's trimmed with gold

Well, I'm a man, yes I am, and I can't help but love you so

Well, I'm a man, yes I am, and I can't help but love you so

*For those who may not know, "cats" refers to his buddies. It's 60s lingo.

actually, the colloquialism "cats" appears to be en vogue again. i see it all the time on the DHP board.

Actually I'm dating myself but cats was a 50's coloquialism used by the beatniks precursors to the hippies of the 60's

Sometimes I would rather be with cats. And I do mean the animal.

    Graham,

I happened upon a copy of Macho's "I'm A Man" this past weekend and I totally agree that the singer says "and my butt is made of stone". I gotta print out your lyrics and listen to the whole song.

I also listened to Patrick Juvet this past weekend and recalled for the longest time I thought that he was singing "I love a married guy" instead of "I love America". I thought Patrick was real cutting edge for the 1970's.

And lastly, am I the only one who hears the Three Degrees singing "You're a dirty YOUNG man" instead of "Dirty Old Man"? Even to this day, that sounds like what they're singing to me. Go figure.

Well, I think "My butt is made of stone" is really an attempt at "my body's made of stone" with a VERY heavy Italian accent...

A recent one I think is hilarious, though, is "Don't You Want Me" by Savage.

The actualy lyric is, "Don't you want me, don't you need my time", but it comes out as

"Don't you warn me, don't you knit my tie"

Now finally listened to the Macho track very carefully and this is what I found out!

Well my pad is very messy
and there's whiskers on my chin
then I have no problems cause I always pay the rent
I got no time for lovin'
cause my time is all used up.
I stand out sittin' round creatin'
all that groovy kind of stuff.

    I'm a man yes I am
and I can't help but love you so

Well If I had my choice of matter
I would rather be with the guys.
    All engrossed in mental Chatter
showing where our minds are at.
    And relatin' to each other
just how strong our will can be.
    I resisting all involvements
which each groovy dick we see.

    I'm a man yes I am
and I can't help but love you so

So I got to keep my image
    while suspended from a throne.
that looks out upon a kingdom
    filled with people all unknown.
    who imagine I'm not human
and my heart is made of stone
and I never have no problems
and my body is made of stone.

    I'm a man yes I am
and I can't help but love you so

Do you see that I’m a man
Please catch me if you can
    There’s a story going round
that I can seek and hear the sound
    Do you need me
Please tell me why you need me
    Love me baby
    cause I’m a man

Different than the original lyrics - or not? :P
