I'm only familiar with his first hit, I Just Want To Stop (?) and his 80s dance track Black Cars, which was quite good and still in my collection.
The Dutch ANWB (AAA) has adopted "People Gotta Move" as their annual anthem.
That's why he was brought to my attention (again), today I bought a triple cd box, Gino Vannelli-"The Ultimate Collection".
I never realized how good his music was!

Which one of his pseudo "hit" 45's had a jacket that folded out into a mini poster of him strutting shirtless exhibiting his oh- so- hairy chest !! Great marketing tool that one --- we really sold a lot of copies based on his god-given ... uh .... talent !!!!

Bernie, "People Gotta Move" was actually Gino's first hit, from 1974. "I Just Wanna Stop" was his second American Top 40 hit, in 1978. From the 1980s, I like "Black Cars" too; also "the Longer You Wait" and "Persona Non Grata," whicih I played yesterday.
In Canada, he had a hit even earlier than People Gotta Move, with the track Crazy Life.
While Gino isn't disco, I do enjoy listening to his melodic jazz rock fusion. But man did he have a lot of hair (I'm not just talking about on top of his head):
Disco Funk
Gino Vannelli RULES! :)
I did my own home made collection last year. Threw in many Seventies stuff: "People gotta move", "Mama Coco", "A song and dance", "Fly into this night", "Summers of my life", "Brother to Brother", "Valleys of Valhalla", "Wheels of life"... they are all classics in my book.
But then, I also loved Gerry Rafferty! :P
Gino's operatic voice is a bit pompous, but brother Joe's compositions and arrangements are very smart. Their best stuff still holds up after all these years.
In the Eighties they did some awesome things like "Wild horses" and "It hurts to be in love", but it's a whole different sound. Their '75-'78 period is their best.
