    Ladies Softball

I play on an all womens softball team on Monday nights. When I tell people this automatically they seem to think I am a lesbian. What am I missing here? Is there something connected by playing softball and being a lesbian? I had a guy come up to me last week after my game and offer me a spot (I'm a pitcher and 1st basewoman) on his co-ed team. Puzzled I asked why? He said well I can see you're clearly not gay so why would you want to be grouped on an "all womens softball" team?

Apparently at one time women's softball had a reputation has being a 'lesbian' soprt. This was in the 1950s and 60s. PBS (who else) actually had a program about this and there was some truth to it, at least according to the women that PBS interviewed. I guess it still has that reputation.

I'll admit there are a few lesbian women that play in our league. There is actually a team of ladies that are predominantly lesbian and have our team sign as well as every team they play a waver that if anyone even insinuates a snide "gay-hating" gesture we or whomever they are playing are an automatic forfeit! I just thought it weird that if we play softball we are top be automatically considered lesbian. I'm as hetero as it gets. I'm a man lover, a mom and just enjoy playing the sport to stay in shape. 8)

I don't know much about softball coz' it is not very popular over here. I do like American football, any given sunday

I don't know a damn thing about baseball either but I can enjoy watching it.

What I really hate is soccer (football). What a crap game is that! A bunch of fashion models that are running after a ball and start crying for mom when they fall

    David Beckham??? Hahahahahahahaha! OMG

I can't imagine why softball would be considered Lesbian, as it's hardly a game that requires a large butch factor in order to play it. Women's Rugby Union must be the ultimate Lesbian's game. All that groping of body parts, communal showers, pints of beer in the club's bar, after the game. Or, maybe I'm being too stereotypical, 'cos I don't think too many of the male players are Gay?

So Angelina, are you tempted to play for a mixed team? It would get rid of the misconception.

Lina, there is nothing wrong with admitting you like the LPGA, like wearing comfortable shoes, and owning the entire kd laing collection...nothing, really

Um I did join a co-ed team last Monday night actually. I play better than most the guys on my new team though. It's sort of awkward when I replace some of the players after each inning. I don't know if I'll be liked much after that game. We'll see Monday night huh?

Women's soccer is much more interesting. A match is only played with 3 persons and there's no audience. Very cool! Like a chess game, deals with strategy and philosophy
