    Carl Davis "Windy City Theme"

:( Why is this so freakin' short...??? Was there ever an extended version? Such a jazzy little intrumental.

Who knows. I'm not trying to knock it, but it really was just a four bar phrase repeated over and over again, without any bridge or verse/chorus structure, so perhaps it wasn't designed to be very long? While I love extended tracks, I think this track is the right length based on it's structure.

I recall hearing an alternate, but even shorter, version of it on the Ashley Beedle Grassroots CD. It had some narration overtop. And there was also a Westside CD re-release of the original album, which I don't own, but I recall had various segues of the theme peppered throughout. I don't know if they were just repeats of the same version/mix of the track, or if they varied slightly.

The song is so short because it was only released on the album and on the flipside of the 7" single.

The recording act is called Windy City and the track is titled "Windy City Theme." Carl Davis was not part of the group but was the producer. A CD compilation has misnamed the artist.

Windy City was a five-man R&B vocal group. They were signed to Davis' Chi-Sound Records, hence his production work. Even "Windy City Theme" was a vocal piece, a short, 1 1/2 minute interlude with a spoken-word narration about Chicago. For the flipside of the single, "Windy City Theme" was extended by about a minute or so and the vocal was deleted.
