    Dusty Does Disco...

I am listening to the 12" Tom Moulton remix of her tune, "That's The Kind of Love I've Got For You"...I have to admit this ain't have bad. Her other really "disco" number, "Baby Blue" is also fairly slick. Not really in my books as classic disco, but enjoyable nonetheless. And as a HUGE fan of Dusty, it's kind of cool to hear her take a crack at the dancefloor.

damn.. I was about to do a post on "That's The Kind of Love I've Got For You".. Love the synths and strings on that one! There were no other disco songs on it, but I liked the album a lot too..

What is the name of the album and what year? I love Dusty Springfield as well although I'm not quite up on all her album releases. Of course, the best is still 'Dusty In Memphis'.

^ The album was "It Begins Again" from 1978. Amazon says it's out of print, but I can't believe that.. Mercury/Universal issued it on CD in 2002, with the Tom Moulton 12" of "That's The Kind of Love.." as a bonus track. I'm ashamed to say I'm not as familiar with her classics, but it's one of my favourites from her. This LP along with "White Heat" and "Reputation" are the ones I have, all great albums IMO..

Yikes !!! I didn't know that Moulton had remixed Dusty's "That's The Kind Of Love I've Got For You" I only have the LP version which I always assumed was probably what they put on the 12"...but I never really checked.

    How different is it???? :-?

^ For starters the original is around 5 mins. long, where the remix is around 7 mins. I think Tom brought out the strings and guitars a bit more in places; that abrupt percussion break on the original is not quite as loud or abrupt and is followed by a bass/guitar driven instrumental break. I think the background vocals are up front a lot more also, they're pretty prominent in some of the other extended passages. The remix builds up a bit slower than the LP version and doesn't seem quite as frantic towards the end...

Personally, I really love this track, esp. the Tom Moulton mix. It's almost the ultimate disco song, containing all the best elements (clichés?) of disco, neatly packed into a 7 minute epic masterpiece. Could almost be a pisstake of disco, if it wasn't so well done! :)

As the boy who posted this, I have to clarify...as much as I like this, I think it still sounds "souless"...Dusty can make most songs "believable"...but this is her vocally going through the motions. I enjoy the tune (yeah, the remix is good), but is it heartfelt and classic....naw.

Agree. Not Dusty's finest moment by any means. Just a great silly disco song!
