    "This Is It" lyrics???

What is Miss Melba singing?... is it...

"This is it. This time I know it's the REAL THING"?

    or

"This is it. This time I know it's for real baby"?

I seem to hear it differently...or maybe she changes the phrase as she sings it in different parts of the song...but when the lyrics were printed in Jean Carne's tribute cd to Van McCoy...the lyrics didn't have "it's the real thing" in them leading me to wonder if Coke had a copyright on that and made Van change them??? :-?

    Any ideas???

It sounds to me like the only time she says "This time I know is for real baby" is during the first verse, it's kind of hard to catch because the background vocalists are singing at the same time over her vocals "this time I know is the real thing" which they repeat (only) throughout the song, She can clearly be heard right at the end in her high pitch style singing "This time I Know it's the real thing".

First time I play this in decades :o I'll bet we are the only ones in the whole world listening to this tune today!

Melba Moore / "This Is It"

    (chorus)
    this is it
this time i know its the real thing
and i cant explain what im feeling
    im lost for words
    im in a daze
    stumped and amazed
    by your lovin'ways
    (repeat)

    1. you smile at me
    and suddenly
the wheels of love begin to turn inside of me
    we settled low
    i felt a glow
right then and there i knew id never let you go
    cause i know, i know.....

    (chorus)

    the touch of you
    is something new
nobody ever made me feel the way you do
    it's heavenly
    it's ecstasy
the way you make me feel when you make love to me
can't you see, can't you see....

    (chorus)
    (repeat 2 and chorus)

And "stumped and amazed" should be "stunned and amazed".

The lyrics are a little clearer on the Dannii Minogue cover version...

I hope corporations don't "own" the English language to the extent that anyone who wants to can't use common phrases in songs ......

The only words the non-food hucksters known as COKE should be able to claim ownership to should be "carbonated sugar water " :P ------

Th lyric sheet provided in Carne Sings McCoy says:

"This is it, this time I know it's for real baby" every time that line is repeated...never says "it's the real thing"--but that's what I always heard Melba singing. :o

Also, strangely they do say she is "STUMPED and amazed" by your loving ways"--NOT "STUNNED"--which I also thought was what she was singing. :-?

Maybe Jean wanted to change the lyrics? :-?

Surprised Coke didn't used this song as a jingle at some time....

"Coke is IT--this time I know it's the REAL THING!!!"

oh, and the lyric sheet says...

"You say hello, I felt a glow"...not "WE said hello"
