And it's opening at the Shaftesbury Theatre too, of all places, Not Too Shabby! Whatever this production is going to be like is anybody's quess but it's obviously going to be very big, at least in scale. "Boney M the Musical" - to keep from fainting keep repeating: It's only a show, it's only a show...

    Oh Forking hell!!!!!!

I think we'll all have to lie low for a few months when Boney M Fever takes hold and invariable Disco (Boney M) is cool again. I can imagine it now. "Hey, you like Disco don't you? Yeah... thought you did...I like Boney M too."

A show about what really went on behind Boney M would be quite interesting indeed... sadly, I expect that there will be no such thing.

After listening to some of their music, I can see why they never made it big in America (with the exception of the Top 40 song "Rivers Of Babylon" in 1978).

I was about to say 'what about Rasputin' but after checking my Billboard Pop Singles book, I see that it didn't even chart on America's top 100!

As overplayed and tired I am of this song, it was huge here in Canada and Europe. Back in the 80's, when I started out djing at weddings, I couldn't get away without playing it. It was about the only disco song that straight men would allow themselves to get up and kick their heels  (of course that was after the half dozen or so beers kicked in)

But will there be any original members of Boney M on stage, that's the question!

Just like "Mama Mia" without the real Abba, copycats just don't interest me. I can not watch a pic about someone that I saw in reality (even if it's just on screen) to be replaced by another singer or actor. Ike and Tina Turner, Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, even Howard Hughes and Katherine Hepburn.

My memory of those stars is just to great and I just can NOT watch somebody else playing them. It's bull!!

The only time that I go watch a show is when they project the real star on a screen and accompanie him/her with a live orchestra, like they did with Elvis and Mr. Sinatra.

Can u imagine some guy touring as Barry White now? Even with the complete Love Unlimited Orchestra? I wouldn't spend a dime on such a fraud

Today's actors are too goodlooking and physically fit to be all that believable when playing people from the past. Emphasis on working out at the gym three or four days a week just wasn't a part of life back then let alone liposuction and botox.

But think about it: a glittering, horrendously tacky musical with singalong numbers we all love to hate - now That's Entertainment! I for one shall be pre-ordering my tickets asap.

Wasn't there a 12" on Atlantic of Daddy Cool or Sunny? If my memory is correct, it was the same length as the album cut?

You guys are correct--This group never took off here in America.

    From the website: -

Boney M was created by Frank Farian in 1975 and has sold over 800 million records around the world,
HOW MANY?? Are there that many muscially challenged people in the world?

Yeah, but many of those copies are stacked in Quinny's basement!

But both make any self respecting Disco fan wretch. EEEUUUGGGHH!!!!

Even my wife re-tunes or switches the radio off when either of these two get airplay. If you knew my wife and her tastes in music, you'd understand that it meant something fairly profound, for her not to like either of them.

I think ABBA were brilliant. And they were smart to call it quits while they were still at their height of achievements--sorta like Greta Garbo leaving Hollywood in the early Forties--when she was still a major star. Before the decline.....

Only now are they getting their due from the dance world; hey Tom Moulton gave DANCING QUEEN props as being too perfect to remix (he regrets it now); Madonna is sampling them in her latest dance smash; their musical sems to be an Energizer-bunny---it just keeps touring and touring and touring and every time they hold a Trocadero reunion--the biggest screams on the dancefloor are for the likes of LAY ALL YOUR LOVE ON ME or THE VISITORS. I heard the screams myself when Robbie Leslie played the latter. And Jerry Bonham chose GIMME, GIMME, GIMME (A MAN AFTER MIDNIGHT) and ON AND ON AND ON for the last version of the party.

ABBA lives on!!! (not in Southampton apparently  :P :o --but EVERYWHERE ELSE!!!)

"Daddy Cool" was even championed by the legendary Larry Levan, and even if he hadn't played it, I still love that song, as well as Ma Baker. I remember dancing to that at The Bistro in Chicago.

But a Musical? hmmm, don't think i'll be purchasing any tickets to that spectacle.

"Ma Baker" was suppposed to be about outlaw Ma BARKER--but they (BM--that is apropos, no?) were too stoooooopid to know how to spell her damn name!!! Yikes!!! How can you write a song about a famous person and spell their name WRONG!!!  :x

    Toooo Stoooopid for Pop!!!!!!!!! :P :P :P

and "Rah- rah- ras-pu-teeen/ lover of the Russian Queen" (sis-boom-bah) is better-suited for a cheerleading tryout than a pop song!!!

I know they got the name wrong, but who cares it was a FUN song. a guilty pleasure song, right up there with "yes sir, I can boogie". They way Baccara pronounce "boogie voogie" gets me everytime.

A one man show played in New York and San Francisco based on the lyrics of disco songs. the opening number was "yes sir, i can boogie" and juxtaposed with visuals of people that could boogie (IE: Raquel Welch) and people that could not (IE: George W. Bush). it was hilarious and highly entertaining.
