    The Supremes "He's My Man"

    :o

Felt again like expressing my love for this song. As much as I LOVE Jean Terrell, when Scherrie took the lead the group got DOWN. I feel this is one of the stronger of the "disco" cuts, even more enjoyable than "I'm Gonna Let My Heart..." (which I realized sounds similar in a way to Candi's "Young Hearts, Run Free" in theme and sound). This is a little funkier. Thoughts anyone? It was a number one hit in the clubs no?

ahh love this song.. This was probably my real introduction to the 70's Supremes. Love that intro, it just hits you right away. Those drums, the wah-wah guitar, Mary and Scherrie's vocal interplay; the whole thing's just so tight. That extended mix on the '70s Anthology is great too.. The Supremes '75 album is kind of special to me, it's a bit of a mixed bag, but the beginning of The Supremes' disco period.. gotta love it!

from the June 14, 1975 Disco Compilation Consensus chart (now residing on page #7 of this forum section)...

(Just so ya know when AMG lists a a record as a #1 Disco record--they give it that honor if it has charted #1 on any of the separate Billboard charts (5 or 6 at this time...)

    6/14/75:
    THE SUPREMES

Melody Song Shops looooooooves "The Supremes" self titled LP; they will chart it for weeks--but constantly change the songs from week to week. No other chart will list ANY of the material from this Supremes LP.

    BUT Melody....

started last week with WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE/ HE'S MY MAN
that combo is gone this week; replaced by EARLY MORNING LOVE
Next weeK: HE'S MY MAN by itself
then THIS IS WHY I BELIEVE
    then HE'S MY MAN
    then HE'S MY MAN
then WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE
then WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE
then HE'S MY MAN/ WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE
    then HE'S MY MAN
then HE'S MY MAN/ COLOR MY WORLD BLUE separately.
then COLOR MY WORLD BLUE for 3 weeks
then WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE for 6 weeks!!!! It's October 18 by now!!!

BTW, I love this record too!!! I wish it would have gotten a proper extended remix---a Tom Moulton style job with an instrumental section and breaks, etc. The longer version on that Supremes compilation just repeats "he's my man" 85 more times than the single...so it was a bit of a disappointment to me...

I never fancied "Where Do I Go From here" too much...and seeing as how I never got a chance to hear any of the other cuts ("Early Morning Love" sounds intriguing...).

You're right, the extended version does repeat a little too much. An instrumental break might have enhanced the song. LOVE the moment where it goes into "he & I belong together, he & I will be forever"...hands in the air girls and dance!
