My favourites are not Disco. Like I said it before, I was never charmed by Discoversions of Chrissy Classics.

When the festive days are in full effect I play my usual Disco stuff and I return to the crooners: Mr. Sinatra, Tony Benett, Dean Martin, Shirley Bassey, Engelbert Humperdinck, Tom Jones and so on. :D

I have one Christmas-Dance CD and that's Alexander O' Neal's "My Gift To You". I never play that one, nor do I own or play the Salsoul Christmas Specials. I know Nicky likes 'em a lot.

Even now when my favourite Internet Disco Station is beginning to heavy rotate that stuff, I turn it off for a few weeks

There was a time when I traditionally would buy a new Christmas album every year just for something new to listen to during the season. I think I quit that a few years ago realizing that today's singers and producers just don't live up to the sincerity and magic of the past. Probably a personally nostalgic trip for me but hearing the voices of Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, Johnny Mathis, Robert Goulet, Ella Fitzgerald, even Dean Martin takes me back to those days of being young, naive and hopeful.

I do like the first Salsoul Christmas album. I was sweet sixteen at the time that I bought it, thinking I was so hip having something so totally different than the norm. Better yet, a Canadian disco album was released a year later that has a beautiful seven minute medley 'Silent Night Suite' with incredible orchestration ending with a soaring female vocal of 'Oh Holy Night' which I believe must be Ranee Lee (one of Canada's stronger female vocalists who has been involved in the Montreal jazz scene for years now...Canada's Marlena Shaw or Linda Clifford?!)

I also enjoy Streisand's second contribution to the Christmas season 'Christmas Memories'...it's nice to hear a selection of original and lesser-known tunes most notably the romantic 'Snowbound'. The Centaur label in New York released the 'Broadway Cares' Christmas compilation which is also a pleasurable treat. It has a fun cover of 'Feliz Navidad' by Daphne Rubin-Vega...love it when she playfully coos during a percussive break 'now this is making me move from the waist down'. There is also the most soulfully explosive singing of 'Silent Night' that you're ever likely to hear provided by Broadway's Lillias White. All profits from the cd benefit Broadway Cares/ Equality For AIDS.

    Hi P
for some cool Disco X-mas listening check out this vinyl
-The Salsoul Orchestra -Christmas Jollies LP vol 1 & 2 especially The Salsoul Christmas suite has that great 'Salsoul Disco' flavour
-The Winans -the real meaning of Christmas
-Raindolls -Disco Santa Claus /Santa's Theme
-Boney M -Christmas with... (the album actually is one to ask Santa if you havent' heard this yet)
-Billy Jackson & the Citizen Band -have a happy Christmas
on the Rap side my favourites are still
-Kurtis Blow -Christmas rappin (where he does a Yuletide rap on his big hit The Breaks)
    -Run DMC -Christmas in Hollis
    -Derek B -chillin with Santa
and if I have to return to the Classics I always pick out the Liberace Christmas album as alltime fav. Especially when the Maestro reads Christmas carols as 't was the night before Christmas'. Camp as Christmas can come!

    Happy Holidays!!!
    all*that*glitters* :D
