Paul, is it Lime vs. Slave or Slave vs. Voyage? :o
Well, I'm a little late with this but better late than never right 8)
Yes topic Nazis, I know they're different but I like doing things differently![]()
So you're stuck on an island with the love interest(s) of your choosing. Which group would like to hear during those special and not so special moments? :D
SLAVE
VOYAGE

Paul, is it Lime vs. Slave or Slave vs. Voyage? :o
Between Lime or Slave: Slave
Between Voyage or Slave: Voyage

Oopsi, that's what happens when I'm not drinkin'
Slave all the way and without a doubt. I really dug Steve Arrington Hall of Fame after Steve left in 1981. One track that's really underrated by them is Stone Jam.
Lime vs. Slave: Lime! Always liked the HNRG-outputs by these fine Canadians.
Slave vs. Voyage: Voyage! I don't like all the stuff they released but certainly "Souvenirs", "From East To West" are tatooed in my Discobrain.
Slave was OK but not more than that (IMHO that is)
I have the Best of Slave CD and it really shows how INCREDIBLY one-dimensional they were. O.K., let's have a slid bass note to start, where's the car hooter, oh and vibraslap, gotta have that? Only one track of their's really stands out as different...Stellar Fungk.
I have the Voyage, Best of CD and that shows how they tried too hard to be a little different (Scots Machine {not on CD thankfully}, Tahiti Tahiti, Kechak Fantasy etc). Rock instrumentation and intros with attitude DON'T mix with cooing chix and sugary sweetness. They really didn't know what they were trying to do, or so it seems to me.
Sooo, it's like trying to choose between piss and ****, add some lime and that's one neat cocktail for audio diarrhoea.
That's what I wanted to write. Instead I'll just say....
on balance, put me down for Slave.

Denis, Denise, forgive this man, as he does not know what he's saying

This is easy paul. This is like saying you have a choice of a
Corvette or a Cobalt, which do you choose? I would definetly say Voyage
i guess I must've missed the first part of the question... how did LIME get into the mix?
anyways VOYAGE over LIME
SLAVE over VOYAGE
because I can handle both elements (disco or funk or funk/disco) whatever you want to call it. unfair choices!!!
Basically efunk, I fucked up when I originally posted this. In the topic subject I had Lime or Slave. Bernie and Johan caught it and immediately pimp slapped me. In fact Johan is still slapping me even after I corrected it :lol:Originally Written by efunk_adelic
VOYAGE - I LOVE YOU DANCER 12" MIX.
slave never did anything to top that in my books ;)
Slave, but the two acts are very very different
You gotta be kidding me.
Slave was very ingenious and original. How about "Snap shot", "Watching you", "Stone jam", or "Just a touch of love".
They also did instrumetals and had a unique production with Steve Washington's bass. Stone jam in my view is the best album of that era.
Another side-group that seems to get trashed is Aurra who later evolved into Deja. Many reviewers have said that their Salsoul 2CD anthology is overkill and mostly filler. I beg to differ. Even Steve Arrington had a cut with Aurra called "Summertime Lovin".
I guess Slave and all deviations thereof is like the Hi sound. It sounds very similar and only true fans can thoroughly appreciate it.

Eddie I worked in a club during this time period (r&b influenced) with Slave/Aurra as some of the bands that did well. STONE JAM was definitely a floor filler. AURRA's "ARE YOU SINGLE" and "MAKE UP YOUR MIND" ruled.
Voyage! Just listening to "Souveniers" reminds me why I like disco so much! Another notable song "From East To West" is a very catchy particularly with the "explosion" sound at the end of the song!
Why are we comparing 2 groups who played such vastly different styles of music?
^^^
dam straight! Too many topics on this forum like this.
I like my disco and I like my funk. Depends on what mood I'm in -- Apples or oranges? Not apples vs. oranges!! I love them both but I would never compare.
I love "Souvenirs". I love "Snapshot".
They are very different. I love everything I have heard of both. "Slide" is my fave Slave. "Souvenirs" is my fave Voyage. On a desert island, I'd rather dance, kiss 'n' cuddle to Voyage though.
Has anyone bought Slave's 4 albums on 2 Collectable CDs. I've been playing Showtime/Vision of the lite every since I received it 2 weeks ago.
Hardness of the World/Concept was delayed and I finally received it today along with the following titles:
George McCrae-Self/Rock me baby
DeeDee Bridgewater-Just family/bad for me
Stuff-Live in NY/More stuff
Charles Wright-Express yourself
Doris Troy-Sings just one look
J.J. Jackson-Sings but its alright

I agree comparing these groups, to some, may seem like "apples and oranges" I like all 3 groups Lime, Voyage, and Slave.....but, the question was, if stranded on an island with your mate of choice, what would it be? And since I like to do a little more than just dance 8) I've got to go with Slave.
If songs like, Thank You, Starting Over, Feel my Love, For the Love of U, don't make ya wanna get nekkid.....lol![]()
And I have to disagree with those who say Slave was over when Arrington left, I'll be the first to admit I was heated when he left, and couldn't really listen objectively to the LP's when I bought them at the time, which many people did, which certainly cost them commercially, but a few years ago I pulled them all out to transfer them to CD and found many of the songs were very good.
Slide vs. Souvenirs
Funk vs. Disco.. A lovely change of pace...
In later years - Just a Touch of Love vs. I Love You Dancer
It's a tie since I love, both the Funk and Disco alike!
I totally disagree and beg to differ :
Raw funk meets orchestrated strings. Check their ballads for instance ... one-dimensional ? ... i don't think so.
Also don't underestimate the creative input which Steve Arrington had in the band , and on his 2 solo-albums right away after he left the group.
And yes , they might've had a very basic concept when creating their compositions , even though i personally don't see it that way or as a lesser thing , because that's what makes Slave's trademark-sound unique and not like any other band around that time or afterwards ( with the exception of related groups which evolved from Slave , like Aurra / Steve Arrington's Hall Of Fame / Civil Attack / Legion ) .
Their bass-player , Mark "The Hansolor" Adams , explained the way he worked with the band in a brief online interview called "Groove Rider".
It might be one-dimensional to some , but Mark's plucking/popping/walking bassline strongly carried a lot of songs from Slave.
( ps , though compilations show to the buyers/listeners a general and overall view about an artists general body of work ,
it still doesn't show the complete catalogue though (imo) in order to make a clear statement about their productions )
