Re: Frisky "You've Got Me Dancing In My Sleep"
[quote=SandraDee;able to be fast & zingy & gay yet also black & funky at the same time. It was a sort of across-the-board disco appeal. ?:icon_confused:[/quote]
At my local record store their are truly TWO shelves; one is the rough, beat up and terrible "gay disco records" (bottom shelf) where one might find the Silver Blue LP we're discussing in other threads and other disco of dubious collectable merit. And the other top shelf is what the hetero boys who run the store consider "rare groove" ie. disco that has "cred" in white, heterosexual male terms
Where's Frisky? Top shelf baby!
Now, do I agree with the way they distinguish some of these records, not really. I think a lot of the records on the bottom shelf have amazing appeal; it's there you find the Euro, the space disco, the Chic (go figure), the late period disco that just got overlooked...but I can see why in "purist eyes" it's not top shelf material.
Anyway, I digress. I agree 100% about Moses & Dillard having across board appeal. Saturday Night Band being a fine example.
The lesson here is top or bottom, either way I'm happy with what I find
*ahem, that was a joke*
