    Who did "Funky Nassau"?

Who did the track "Funky Nassau" ? Don't have a recording of it, but it must have been released sometime 1972 - 1976... It has female vocals - full lyrics - a very funky beat with horns and an infectious beat and driving bass line - very awesome track! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

This is by "The Beginning of the end", from 1971, I hear there is a UK 12" with both Part I and 2, both of which are available at itunes 8) this was a big radio hit in Miami's r&b stations and is listed at 356 on the Discola top 500 discotheques songs of the 70's. :D

Mixmachine, thank you soooo much! I have to get this ! I heard it mixed on a radio show on XM's "THE MOVE" by some guy Danny Krivit. He started the mix with a re-edit of some sort "LOVE BUG" instrumental version (reminded me of that dub of "Spank" by Jimmy 'bo' horne) .. anyway, thanks so much.

There entire 1971Lp on Alston is available on Cd and is not that scarce. That song though is edited in 2 parts with a fadeout.

    It has female vocals
?!!! This version must have been sped up to mistaken the lead vocalist of The Beginning of The End for a female.

As for 'Love Bug', that track was done by Bumble Unlimited. An awesome, spacey disco record with a funky breakdown in the middle.

There's a full 5:20 version on Francois K- Choice CD (highly recommended as there are lots of other good cuts on this double CD) or a 4:58 version on The Best Of TK Soul Singles, again highly recommended. So look at the tracklistings and go see which one appeals.

Ray Munnings also did a good version of Funky Nassau. Sadly it's on a UK only 12" that appeals to people with very deep pockets on Ebay!

Yes, Francois K did a good edit on that one - it flows very well. It's too bad Part 2 of that song was from the break onward. It would have been nice if they had made Part 2 an instrumental from the intro of the song. Oh well...

The Francois K track sounds like a completely different version to me. I don't recall any guitar on the original 7" on part one or part two, but it is the best part of 30 years since I played either side. The long version on the TK CD is more like a straight edit of the two 7" sides.

    Thanks everyone for your help.

Just heard the "FUnky Nassau" by Beginning of the End.

The version I heard on the mix, had female vocals. Towards the end of the tune she repeats "Funky Nassau" several times and the first few bars of the 7"single by Beginning of the End is repeated several times. The mix has more guitars (lots of wah-wah effects).

Is it possible somebody else did this version? Could not have been later than '75. I guess between 72-75.

Do you mean the guitar solo? That's definitely on Pt 2. It replaced the vocals, rather than having Pt.2 just be the straight rhythm section instrumental. I've heard it on the original 45, and on a CD series called MVP that was released in the UK a decade ago. I believe Pt. 2 was also on the CD reissue of the LP.
