    EL COCO on P-VINE

Complementing the thread posted by Neonlights:

I've just received a copy of EL COCO's 3rd album LET'S GET IT TOGETHER, recently released on Japan by P-Vine.

I was expecting something taken from a scratched LP, decrackled by a computer software.

Having read your interesting posts about damaged master tapes and expensive process to recover them, I could not imagine EL COCO masters existed. But it seems it does!

So it was a rewarding experience to hear the P-VINE re-release of LET'S GET IT TOGETHER... I encourage everybody who likes Rinder & Lewis to get a copy.

After years of listening to my worn-out scratched LP, to listen to that album in such a clear, loud and profund sound it was just great.

The sound is so good that you can (now) even hear properly little instruments that sounded appalling on the original LP.

The depth of sound by the rythm section (bass drum + bass) is astounding. Summing it up: you can listen to the album in its original intended full glory.

The artwork reproduces the original front and back cover, although there is some new arwork for the CD background tray.

The only drawback is that P-VINE did not include the remixes:

A- JUST BE YOU (12 inch remix)
B - PUT ON YOUR JEANS (12 inch remix)

    A - LET'S GET IT TOGETHER (12 inch remix)
B - FAIT LE CAT (DO THE CAT 12" remix)

I hope they release the rest of the albums

Great review Paulo! I have yet to get this, but I think I will pretty soon. I just realized my favourite Japanese CD site just sold out :(

I haven't been disappointed by Japanese reissues (so far, anyway). I don't ever remember coming across any that were mastered from vinyl or that had shoddy reproductions of the artwork. The downside is they seem to rarely have bonus tracks..

Sounds like another one to buy! I've got lots of Japanese CDs, and I'd say about 95% were of master tape quality. There were a couple that weren't, and one that really annoyed me was the Best of Freedom CD, because the 12 mix of 'Get Up and Dance' sounded so obviously like it was taken from a well-used 12". I had bought the CD in the hopes of getting a clean, master tape quality version. Oh well.

Ive got the song on record in mint condition, and its always sounded excellent to me. You just need a good turntable and sterio, and a good copy.

Ive always enjoyed the song. I have it on a AVI compliation album called "hot disco night". Does anyone else have this compilation album? Although the song plays for a while, I always enjoy it so much that when it fades out, I wish It continued. I wonder if a longer version is available. The beat slightly changes right before my version ends.

The song has always been one of my favorites, and was the fisrt EL COCO song I ever owned. Ever since hearing it for the first time, EL COCO has been one of my favorite groups. I especially like the way the song starts out, with that excellent sounding note!

Yet more proof (if it was ever needed) that CD is far superior to vinyl for sound quality. Honestly guys, I have never heard any CD release (from an O.K. tape master) that has been inferior to any vinyl copy I may have, even if it has been transferred using compression. The amount of extra detail is phenominal in some instances, even on a cheapo CD player through a cheapo amplifier.

I might wait until the New Year to get this. My vinyl copy sounded pretty clean when I transferred it to CDR. I also included the 12" remixes (including the 1980 remix of 'Lets Get It Together') onto that CDR. Too bad they didn't include those on the Japanese release. Oh well.

discorecordplayer (and Paulo etc), I have El Coco's "Let's get it Together" on "Disco 54: The AVI Collection." I have "Hot Disco Night Vol. 2" but not Vol. 1. I also have the full Japanese reissue "Let's Get It Together" album which I bought at the Tower Records in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. Yes, no bonus tracks, no lyrics, but good liner notes (in Japanese of course) and sounds great.
