Despite the respect or contractual issues involved, I've said it before and will say it again: ARTISTS INVOLVEMENT IN THEIR OWN COMPILATIONS is the kiss of DEATH.
They are soooooo close to the songs involved (as they should be), that they do not have the perspective to deal with them logically. Thus you will have bonafide hits or just plain GREAT songs left off because "I got divorced when that song was written" or "My agent took all the cash from that 20 years ago" or "I dont like the mix- even though it sold 4 million singles" or "you cant hear the 19th member of the 40 person chorus STOPPED SINGING?" or whatever is the emotional upheaval of the moment.
But at Universal I can almost guarantee that they decided THEMSELVES that the compilation wouldnt be as "pure" with that song on it.
Notice even on the 4 cd Cat Stevens box (to name a similar artist with a similar LACK OF 12" hit on his reissues) there is no "Was Dog a Doughnut".
With the omissions by both artists of those songs how much in sales do you think they lost? I say screw them both.
You dont wanna respect to the disco/dance/black audience whom you COURTED when you were looking for someone to listen to you? F____ YOU...... WITH a 12 inch. Now, omit THAT~!!
