    Grace Jones "On Your Knees"

Not a lot of discussion around Miss Jone's underated "Muse" LP. I thought I'd ask around and see how people felt about the "single". I much prefer this to "Do Or Die"...a little tighter, though I have to say, it hasn't aged really well (I'd never put this on for friends not into disco to "impress";-). I think Grace did the sort of cabaret-cum-disco star thing quite well and this is such a campy gay tune. Was it a big club hit for her? And why did they do a Tom Moulton mix of the B-side, "Don't Mess With The messer" (which has a nice pan flute sort of sound that would come back on "feel Up")...this song just seems sooooo laid back. Not something I could see anyone getting too excited about dancing too.

Discuss! My "American Generation" thread got lots of neat posts...I aim for the same.

I love Grace, I wouldn't call this song the cream of the crop either, but I do enjoy it though.. I like the lyrics and the theme (I think it was written by D.C. LaRue) IMO it was sort of a sign of things to come hehe..

I really like "Muse" as an album, not sure it had anything that would have made a standout single though. That said, my faves on the album would probably be "Suffer" and "Atlantic City Gambler."

On Your Knees is a great song. Heck, the whole Muse album is awesome. And I really like her previous LP Fame as well. I wish Island would put those two Tom Moulton-produced Philly records onto CD! They've only put out Portfolio, which for me is an okay album. And the songs from those later LPs haven't made it onto any of her compilations except for Do Or Do. It's like they think the LPs have cooties.

"On Your Knees" is the best and most outstanding song of her entire catalog. Good background singers add to the experience.

I just thought I would add the review of "Muse" to the discussion, that I posted on this site some time ago.

    BIG GRACE JONES FAN***
MUSE** WHAT A SUPERB ALBUM. "on your knees" is an infectious, catchy disco stormer that definitely ranks up with all her other superb releases. I have the LP on vinyl - would be great to see it released on CD at some point.

---- Grace Jones readily put herself out front and her flamboyant personality and over-the-top energy added a lot of flavour to the disco scene ..... unlike so many of the invisible disco artists .....she was an actual body .... who appeared at many clubs and functions .... and reviewing her contributions helps to remind me just how wildly fun this all was ....

Unlike many disco artists who "came & went", Grace is still around today, strutting her stuff.

 Yes, especially on airplanes where she keeps fighting with stewards and gets arrested

Grace Jones is an enigma to me. As I'm 100% into Disco and not the other Dance styles, I must say that the Disco Grace never impressed me much. But, I'm a big fan of her Reggaewave (?) tracks. These are eternal to me: "Pull up to the bumper", "Slave to the rhythm (entire album)" and especially "Private Life" are heavenly tracks.

One of the tracks from 'Pride' has made it onto 'Grace Jones The Collection' compilation CD on Spectrum records, that is 'All On A Summer Night' - a very good track IMO but why they picked that track to put on the CD & none of the others I really don't understand. :-?

I have to admit On Your Knees is my favorite Grace Jones hit. It has that "1979" sound to it. I love the way this song begins with just the tapping of a drum stick, it lead to a lot of creativity with some DJ's. I have the Muse LP (which I guess never made it to CD) and I have On Your Knees on the 12"
