A couple of days ago I watched this biographical movie on the TV made on the live of the conceptual artsit
Jean ..... Basquiat
does anybody remember him?
He started out in the late 70's. Anyway the movie was very good
it starred one of my favorite modern actors Benico Del Torro as his friend
it also had David Bowie playing Andy Warhall.
I don't remeber who played battiste but the actor reminded me a bit of Lenny Kravitz....
Anyway I must say both me and my love
enjoyed the movie very much and it finished off at the point where Andy Warhall dies.
It was also quite intrested cause it showed in what way the Art industry functioned and how all the gallery owners and managers
where endlessy trying to expose the artists.,....
and how the artists forcefully try to the exploit the gallery owners back......

Sutnop: you're meaning the movie "Basquiat", about the late painter Jean-Michel Basquiat. I saw it on video some years ago. There's a lot of cameos from people of the painting NYC world (the movie was directed by another painter, Julian Schnabel). I also liked Bowie doing Warhol (and did you see Jared Harris in the same role in "I shot Andy Warhol"? Very good!).
I recommend you a movie I mentioned some weeks ago in another topic, called "Downtown 81" (a.k.a. "New York Beat Movie") with Basquiat himself in the lead role. It's like a disco movie (i.e. no plot) filmed and set in NYC around 1981, with plenty of new wave and no wave artists live (Tuxedomoon, DNA) and even bits from a show by Kid Creole and The Coconuts.
This movie was in the vault for 20 years and released recently, probably direct-to-video. (I managed to see it in a film festival.) Really ingÈnue and nice, plus the historic value about the NYC scene.

Hey Sutnop, I just found on imdb.com that Basquiat also appears in the video clip of Blondie's "Rapture" (I don't remember seeing it). He's credited as "graffitti artist" so he must be doing some SAMO work, as he does in "Downtown 81". BTW, Debbie Harry does a cameo appearance at the end of that movie.
Hope this is useful.
