    Jody Watley or Karyn White

OK I'll say it right now. Karyn wins for me. What did it is her seductive sexy voice. She is fine, as is Jody. It's the way Karyn hit's it in Secret Rendezvous that sealed it. The 12" mix of this song esposes her sweet sex voice.
Yah, I know. In terms of sheer volume of music Jody might be the better choice but...

    Ditto Paul.
Karyn takes the prize with "The way you love me" and "The way I feel about you".
Great memorable ballads were "Superwoman", "Tears of Joy" and "Can I stay with you".
I also loved her duet with Babyface "Love saw it" I heard the remix which is on Babyface's A closer lookLp which is my all-time favorite album.
On her last 1993 album, she worked with Mckinley Horton from Cashmere.
I thought the pictures of her blowing bubbles in the studio on her Romantic album was quite cute.
It's too bad I'm CD only collector because I have never run into her work with Jeff Lorber in mid 1980's.

Jody has a new house mix of "Looking For A new Love" out there that is quite effective. Love Jody a lot.

Jody Watley is the on I cherish. The Shalamar stuff and her solo-efforts always appealed to me. Karyn White is not my cup of tea.

Maybe if she had done some work in the seventies and made some real Disco, but all the stuff that I know from here is cold 80's computerstuff. I have records of her but I haven't played them for many years and Miss Jody is a frequent visitor of my decks.

It'll be Jody for me.. I borrowed a Karyn White CD from the library a while back, didn't grab me that much, a friend of mine has been urging me to give her another try, so I just might..

Anyways Jody not just for her looks and her music, but her diverse body of work.. From Shalamar to more recently where she's been dabbling in electronic music; very few of her peers have lasted as long, much less managed to evolve the way she has.. I loved her last album "Midnight Lounge," wasn't a big comeback or anything, but it got lots of good reviews as I recall. I'd describe it as sort chillout/electro-soul.. She did an awesome trance single recently with these Japanese producers, which was actually amazing (for those of you who like that sort of thing..).

I very much liked the way Karyn was soooo close to loosing her top on the Jeff Lorber inner sleeve pic on the "Private Passion" LP
A truly great set (in more ways than one)

I loved Jody well before Shalamar, when she was a Soul Train Dancer with Jeffrey.

You really shouldn't have much trouble finding Karyn White's work on Jeff Lorber's release called "Private Passion". Both Watley and White have their strong and weak points....both tend to be dominated by their producers. I think Karyn White has a slightly more distinctive voice and more R and B oriented sound...I think Jody Watley is a better songwriter. I think White is better at ballads than Watley ("I'd Rather Be Alone", "Slow Down"). And while we're on the subject, I've always wondered if the "Steve Harvey" listed as a producer on Karyn White's eponymous album is the "Kings of Comedy" performer.....

Jody for me!! Big fan of her 80`s solo work and the tracks she recorded in the mid 90`s ("Off the Hook" is wonderful) was very impressive !
Only heard one song by Karyn White ("Superwoman") and It did not impress me.

JODY JODY JODY all the way.

She's been at it for ages and she is still tooling with new ideas and releasing "adult" dance music.

Plus she's one of my MySpace pals !!!

Dayna shoulda had that photo to send along with her questions to Jody. I think Jody would've reconsidered her anti-marriage stance

Re: Jody Watley or Karyn White

I love Karyn White to death, can't take nothing from her, BUT, Jody's my girl!!! Just as FlyRobinFly has stated, she was once a Soul Train dancer, as Jeffery was the "Pop Along Kid". This led to Jody being a better performer on stage!!!

Another point I'd like to make is this: Jody's finer now, than she was back in the 70's when she started with Shalamar!!! Ol' girl's gotten thick!!! She always had a nice figure for a slim chick back then, but now, BABY'S GOT BACK!!!:icon_mrgreen::icon_mrgreen::icon_mrgreen:

It's kind of a Sophie's choice of new jack era divas but I really got a soft spot for Karyn but Jody continues to make great music. Not loving the newest album, "Makeover", but the second to last ("Midnight Lounge") is probably one of my favorites of the decade! Sadly Karyn hasn't released stuff in a while so it would be hard to judge but I loved her "Ritual Of Love" disc.
