    Disco- a manīs world ?

When iīm out clubbing, i often think about women and menīs different taste of music.

In clubs where they play mixed (underground) music, i think itīs usually guys that gets exited when the Dj puts on disco or some house classic. and when you go to deep house or disco oriented clubs itīs mostly guys in the crowd.
my perception is that women prefer to get down to dancehall reggae, hip hop and modern rīnīb.

My theory is - taboo...in menīs view, maybe disco is taboo - camp ,danceable and joyus - typicly un-masculine trades.
Dancehall and hiphop is often sexist, and very masculine...maybe thatīs why women are attracted?
(especially in here Sweden, were gender equality is a big issue. hiphop is really big here)

i see it in my girl friend. she hates disco - loves 50 cent...and sheīs a feminist

Am i alone with this perception that most disco fans are men? (...and i donīt agree to the conception that str8 discofans are closeted gays)
(another thing. many lesbian clubs plays rīnīb, rather than disco)

Interesting observation and topic! In the area of Canada that I am in, it's a bit opposite.

I am the Saturday night dj in my city's only gay club (I won't get into how frustrating it is to have only one gay establishment in a city of 350,000+ people...lol). This is not really a party town so Saturday night really is the only night that draws a capacity crowd (and the only night that I play). I've been the club's dj since it opened its doors three and half years ago.

What I see (and have to contend with) is a lot of straight women partying at the club. My booth is right within the confines of the patrons so I put up with way too many requests all night....90% of them from women. There is the odd request for 50 Cent, Missy Elliott and Usher but the majority want dance music a la Cher, Whitney, Madonna and dance tracks that I played over a year and half ago (Sandstorm anyone?)

So what am I getting to? Basically, the straight clubs here are notorius for playing only hip hop, rap and reggae. Even when Cher had her huge hits a few years back, you wouldn't get a straight jock to play them to their crowd...well, perhaps they'd squeeze one or two in a night for 'da ladies'...so more and more women are coming to my club for the music and dancing. They also like to flirt and dirty dance with the guys too  This nightlife scenario seems to be the norm in many other cities as well.

I can also tell when a confused straight boy has ventured into the club with some friends (ha...lately seems like a lot of confused guys but I digress)...he's the one coming up and asking for some hip hop artist that I've never heard of. It's a crazy, mixed-up array of just about every sexuality one can imagine and I stand there orchestrating the whole thing...

No wonder its been a difficult time keeping a lover! :x <takes another drink> Thank God for the music!

I haven't been to the clubs recently so I don't know the different dancing prefers between the sexes. I do remember back in the early to mid 90's that men and women equally danced to whatever was playing. Sometimes they'd throw in a hip hop tune set in the middle of some house/hi nrg music.
