ABBA- bjorn & benny are cheapskates

related to Madonnas new single with an ABBA sample...

It´s a low down dirty shame Björn&Benny been so restrictive in sampling.
I am a swede, and i love Abba. one of the greatest popbands. they´re terrific songwriters. a lot of discohits. "Dancing queen" is one of the top ten greatest discosongs.

I´m so bitter they didn´t allow Tom Moulton, or some other remixer, to re-edit Dancing queen for example. I would have loved to hear a david morales mix of "dancing queen"...

i think bjorn&benny are a bit ignorant, and think too much of themselves. the production on most of the uptempo abba songs is so CHEESY!! they should´ve consulted a producer interested in BLACK music...i think the result would be perfect.

it is also a shame Agnetha, never recorded discosongs with other producers. she has a great unique singing voice.

they probably got loads of money for the madonna sample.

Actually, Tom Moulton was offered the chance to remix "Dancing Queen" (so Bjorn & Benny must have said OK). However, Tom declared the record was already perfect and he couldn't imagine doing anything to improve it. He regrets it now, of course, but there it is.

But that pop-music cheesy-ness is what made Abba so enjoyable. That and the sometimes fractured lyrics. Dancing Queen's lyrics at least make sense.

I understand that at first they didn't speak english and read the english lyrics phonetically. You can hear this somewhat stilted english on 'Waterloo'. I've also heard snippets of 'Waterloo' in Swedish, how many songs did they record in both languages?

I was always a big Abba fan. But I was disappointed Abba made the Justified Ancients of MuMu aka The Jams destroy all unsold copies of their "1987-What The F*** Is Going On" album because of unauthorized sampling of "Dancing Queen" on "The Queen And I." The track is pretty funny; I have the album on tape.

Yes, more (authorized) remixes would have been nice.

It is a little hard to believe they OKed Madonna's sample for the money, since they turned down so much money to reform.
