Come out with pride and audio history (Disco)

Hi Loves! Yes, it's been forever, but forever came today!

I am writing a book on the gay history of Orlando (Florida, that is!). An old friend of mine found out and asked me to help with the history project portion of the Come Out with Pride day event in October. This was the first time we had the gay pride parade in October to coincide with national COWP day and it was the first time we had a "history project." The history project was held in the Orange County Regional History Center. I made the slide show of past parades AND - I made disco CDs that spanned the years from 1972 to 1979. This was our audio history that I played as the backdrop to the slide show. All my years of collecting and being so into this music finally paid off and I was able to do something worthwhile with it!

I hate to admit it, but there was a travesty that I plan to correct next year. Yes - this really is a disco travesty - faux pas - **** up on my part. Can you believe it? - I did not have the Detroit Emerald's "Feel the Need In Me." I ran right out to Best Buy because their website said they had it on several compilations. I looked and looked and no - they did not have it. I tried Borders, but no they didn't have it either.

So, I figured what the hell. It's not like anyone is going to stand there all day and listen to every single song I recorded and then MISS that one. Only I would know.

    But - it bothered me.

Of course AFTER the event I found and bought the damn song. But, again, like I said here a few years ago - IT'S TOO DAMN SLOW! I remember our DJ playing a faster version. Maybe it's Graham Central Station's version (which is really jacked up!) although that one is on a CD from 1975 so it couldn't be the same one I danced to in 1973 or 1974. I guess our DJ increased the speed on his turntable. I almost don't want to include it next year because it is so slow - but - the compilation wouldn't be complete without it.

I just had so much fun making those CDs. Searching for all the songs - checking to make sure I had the right years. Let me tell you THAT was hard! Some track lists give you the year it was released - that's good because our DJs played them hot off the press! Other times the songs would be listed by chart date, which sucked because I know we danced to a cut long before it hit some kind of chart! But I did the best I could. I'm sure I could have done better, but I didn't have much time to pull it off. Hell, they planned the entire gay pride parade complete with VIP brunch, history project, entertainment (Amber was the parade grand marshall) and vendor fair in just 3 months! The event got rave reviews and restored the people's faith in Orlando's gay pride parade! I'm so proud!

Nice to see you again Lean.
It's nice when you can share the music we love with others. I wasn't the biggest fan od Feel the Need In Me so if I heard our compilation I wouldn't have missed it

An anthem in the UK. I never much cared for the toon, but I had to play the grooves out of it. In some ways, it worked better when it was released by Forrest in the mid '80s.

It's a tough find on a U.S. domestic compilation. I got the UK CD import from a soul specialty shop in Philly. It had 2 LPs on 1 CD and since I was a big fan of all of their other stuff so it worked out well.
